Introducing a language into the Steemit world (or is it there already?)
Well, this is my second post.
DUH! (I think you guys would have reacted haha...)
I do hope that I did not bore the crowd with rotten tomatoes from the first post. (I probably might)
Anyways.
I have been thinking hard on what other sort of useful content that I might be able to contribute into the society, which brought to my attention: languages.
As the world gets closer and the idea of a borderless world might come to fruition, understanding cultures and languages across might be a good idea.
Not everyone in this world speak English.
And besides, English doesn’t seemed to be the hype anymore.
Really? Well... in Asian region, it has become too normal.
I can’t say I am a language expert, but what I CAN do is to share the new discoveries to a language I used to know. Let’s call it a whole new experience.
So which language that is now challenging the international language in world market stage?
...
Drum...
drum...
drum...
...
Ok ok, I will cut off the bull.
It’s to me, Mandarin (and its other dialects).
Of Westerners like to just sum it up as “Chinese”
You see, the Chinese (that comes from China, just in case you do not know it) has many different kind of dialects, just as how western English could “sound differently” out of the same word.
And moreover, the Chinese language radical character itself is MORE than just a word to be memorised; which honestly to me, was a PAIN (constant PAIN I TELL YOU!) just to be able to recognise every stroke of the word.
So you’d ask, “if it is so terrible, why would you be introducing it right now?”
That’s my point.
You see, I never came to appreciate it until recently when I see its much more meaningful representation.
Especially recently (OH! this is so embarrassing)
Each Chinese word derived from a drawing / picture; and from that one word, it can become as part of a puzzle that forms into another word, creating a whole new meaning to the word.
Let's cut the crap. Here, allow me to present to you an example.
This Chinese character represents “human”. Where you can notice like a word transformed from a match stick human drawing. (something with 2 legs)
Let me introduce you another word.
This Chinese character represents “fire”; and if you can visualize it, it does look a little like a camp fire burning with cut wood below, isn’t it?
Now let me show you something neat. What happens when you combine these 2 words together?
Of course, you can’t just combine just like that, we need a little magic touch.
Turn the human character to about 90 degrees, and place it on the left side and you will have this word:
And place the right side with the word fire, you will have this word:
It sounds the same as the word fire, but when you have a human, accompanied with fire, the fire becomes something else; something that is useful.
You see, fire alone is just an element until it is placed unto the hands of a human.
Those so of its usefulness, it is consistently used alongside to form words like companion, partner, or assistant; a “useful human”.
Does this finding interest you to know more about Chinese words?
Do comment below.
Ps: I will try to record the sound of the word in Mandarin later.
@littlenewthings language certainly interest me. I'm trying to learn Mandarin so your character explainations are most appreciated! The are so many ways of saying one word!
Your comment is so much appreciated @myday ! At least I know that one in the steemit world would appreciate it, which will encourage me to write more in the future! And yes, in Mandarin is just one way of speaking the word, when you use other Chinese dialect to pronounce them it will be another totally different sound!
I have just added a new post, an extension to the character "human" @myday , let me know if you find it interesting and helpful or not.
Welcome to Steemit :)
I follow u, follow me back if u want lot of fun and amazing picture every day.
