Experiment : Teaching a language I can't speak. Looking for fellow language students. (Spanish, French, Italian, or German)
From my experiences as both a teacher and a student of languages, I have seen clearly what works and what doesn't work. There are some study methods that work for certain people and others that seem to work for everyone.
Most people seem to think certain things like a teacher or a classroom environment are necessary or that they can't learn without an immersive experience. I want to prove them wrong.
I might be acting like a teacher in that I'm actually teaching you how to study a language, but I do not know the language we are learning so In a sense, I am your fellow classmate as well.
Many believe you need innate talent or brains to be good at languages and I want to show you that you already have the talent and the brains.
All that's needed is motivation and good study methods.
I studied Spanish for 6 years, can't say a thing.
I studied Japanese for 3 years before I could speak.
Chinese took me 3 months to become conversational.
What was the difference?
Is Chinese easier? Hell no! I figured out how to study!
We will simply use certain new grammar and vocabulary to make conversation, starting out with some really basic stuff and slowly moving on to complex grammar. We will start speaking from day 1. You are encouraged to search in a dictionary to learn words that express things you want to say but stick to grammar that we are learning or have learned. This will not be ultra intensive, as I have a ton of stuff on my plate but dedication is required.
No need for a language textbook. We will use duolingo! Check your App Store for the free app. We will base our lessons off the material in the app unless stated otherwise.
So if you are interested in learning either Spanish, Italian, German or French please comment below or find me in the Be Awesome - deep-shit Discord channel
Requirements:
- No previous experience in these languages OR nlittle working memory of the target language.
- Time to study and review at least 1 hour a week through the app.
- Dedication to spend 15-20 minutes making example sentences every other day (3-4 times a week) in the chat room.
- to download duolingo, which I am no way affiliated with.
- get on the discord Be Awesome chat.
Please only join if you can stick with it!
I'm not sure if I will be able to handle four languages at the same time so I will place priority on the language that has the most students and the most dedicated students to work with.
Even if you aren't interested in joint, a resteem would really help me out.

An interesting idea and great offer. Let me know if you ever add portuguese to your list!
Thinking about it but I'm worried about studying it at the same time as Spanish .....
French for me :)
Are you serious about learning? If so we can start tomorrow and I'll make another post to invite others. Requires 1-2 hours on duolingo practicing and 1-2 hours in the chat practicing every week.

Great content!
Thanks for sharing!
I am in!! I took spanish and French class last semester but I still having the trouble with French. I can say Spanish was way easier especially when it comes to grammar and pronunciation. I used to practice from duo lingo but it was too easy for me,so I mostly watch youtube videos :) and yeah I'm interested in joining the chat
Duolingo is just going to provide us with a base of some grammar and vocabulary to use, everyone is encouraged to find more vocabulary to express what they want to say and teach each other the vocabulary they find on their own. Duolingo is actually enough to become conversation if you take the time to go out and use the stuff taught they to formulate your own sentences instead of just memorizing the words. The chat will be a place to use what you are studying, which is central to becoming conversational and works as a substitute for immersion for a few minutes or hours every day.
Come join if you want though we might be below your level.
I've joined the server! looking forward to bruise up my language skill while also making new friends a long the way. I might be using the website version tho as my phone is crammed up with so many applications already. The thing is that I want to be able to just more than understand but also to reply a message and conversing in Spanish and French fluently.
I love Duolingo and have been slowly learning Spanish for about two years now. I totally see why you're emphasizing example sentences.
I'm at 45% fluent, so I can read Spanish pretty well and understand it somewhat when someone else speaks it. But speaking it myself seems terrifying for some reason. My friends will sometimes say, "Talk to us in Spanish!" And all I can come up with is something ridiculous like "Eres un mono bonito!" I actually had a need to talk to someone in Spanish once, and even though it involved words I knew, I ended up using hand gestures instead. It feels like what I really need is more work on thinking in Spanish.
I'm too far along for your group and don't have enough free time, but I really love what you're doing.
I'm a bit worried I'm getting myself into some deep trouble by trying to do 4 languages at once...... I'm already trying to keep up with everything else in my life haha lots to balance. Maybe I should split them up. Maybe you can be a special guest in the chats sometimes ;-)
I want to learn to speak Spanish and Japanese. :)
For japanese just talk to me in the language practice chat, if you are serious about spanish i will share the study plan with you tomorrow, requires you to use duolingo for about 1-2 hours a week and make sentences for 1-2 hours a week. You in?
I'm in! I have to get duolingo later. :)
