Our stand on imposition of Hindi in Karnataka

in #language7 years ago

In lieu of this Kannada-Hindi tirade in Bangalore:

Knowing more languages lets you communicate with a wider range of people and knowing just one language restricts your communication with communities that speak other languages.

Asking a kannadiga to speak in Hindi isn’t any different from asking a Hindi speaking guy to learn kannada.

At the end of the day, it is their individual loss if they fail to communicate with the community that they are surrounded by.

You can’t coax a cow to turn into an Ox.

I believe it is our responsibility to uphold our culture and language.

We, as a community shall uphold our end.

During my stay in UP, they presumed that we, bangaloreans spoke Bengali whereas Bengali is a language spoken in west Bengal, far far away from Karnataka. They had no clue what we spoke in Karnataka.

While most are due to get offended or calmly explain to them at this point, it is however pitiful to see that people are unaware about their country’s diversity.

Compelling anyone to change their beliefs, notions, culture and choice of language is nothing short of bullying which we’ve all known Hitler to practise and look where that got him.

As we do take our stand, I sincerely hope others take theirs towards preservation of their culture and diversity.

Thank you.
