Trying to help TarotbyFergus - and how to say Shit in Swedish

in #language6 years ago (edited)

This is my first Dtube video - I've made the profile recently but I didn't think I would post videos here anytime soon. But...

@tarotbyfergus have initiated a heroic project: to sing the medieval Swedish song, Två Konungabarn, and he was in doubt about how to pronounce a certain word. I failed miserably to explain it, and then I got the idea that I might make a video so he could hear it.

The Swedes have a special sound that are very hard for foreigner to learn. Even to their brother peoples like us Danes. In the audio-clip I try to explain how to get closer to making this magic sound.

Thank you so much!!!
As I've been studying the Swedish language, I'm really seeing how similar it is in the words to English, but the pronunciations are so different!
I'm am sure i can find a Swedish class in Minneapolis, and I am going to see if I can enroll in one this summer.
Making the sound of the ocean is going to be so much fun!!!

We share many words across the Northern sea, mainly because of the Danelaw, Viking occupation of Britain. Egg, window, law, sister and many more. In modern Danish: Æg, vindue, lov, søster.

It's a good idea to learn Swedish as it is the most beautiful of the Nordic languages.

I found this typical Scandinavian girl going through the ocean sound and its many spellings in the typical silly vlogging style.

What a fantastic idea! Great to hear your voice for the first time :-)
Unfortunately I've some playback problems, because the video always hangs at 0:21 - If it doesn't get better, you should maybe try to upload it to dlive as well. Edit: Suddenly it worked ;-)

Ah, that is good to know (that it works anyway). Maybe it is IPFS that hangs?

Yes, it probably takes a while until it's been distributed through IPFS.

I've heard, that dTube videos tend to disappear after a while, because the server capacities are limited. When you use dLive, you will also get the full rewards, while dTube takes some percentage of your rewards.

Don't know exactly, how it is with dSound... (so many options).

I better try them all out to see which one fits me best if it again becomes necessary to explain Swedish words.

If that doesn't get the message across I don't know what will. I have now learnt my first Swedish expletive.

I once lived in Italy and as I tried to learn the language from cheap pornographic comics I collected a list of expletives (a new word for me) in Italian. Cazzo, culo, scopare, finocchio.

I'm not sure how to respond to this :)

'I tried to learn the language from cheap pornographic comics'

I think only you would try and learn a language this way ... ;) You do make me laugh sometimes.

:) It was partly an economic decision. I was very poor and living in Firenze, the most expensive city in Italy.

Hey @katharsisdrill, I think I got it down! Thanks for the Swedish tutorial. I may whip this one out.

What did the first word mean? Did I miss that part?

No I forgot to tell. Åtskilja means: separate, divide. In the song it is an old witch who wants to separate the two royal lovers... because... evil.

Really cool if you master that sound :)

Here is some more exercises with the sound that is hard even in Swedish

What a fascinating word and meaning to be here now. I'm a bit amused and if I could even be shocked anymore, I probably would go with that descriptor.

Thank you, @katharsidrill!

(So happy I found you today! I follow my buddy, @tarotbyfergus' tag.)

I watched your last videos. I saw that you used your voice in this video. I have so much benefited from your video. Thank you @katharsisdrill sir. Always I know about many useful things by watching your videos. God Might Bless You :-D

So you have learned a bit of Swedish :)

So in Sweden, would anyone dare to eat this?

Well, they eat this:

The google translation: "First time we tried surplus flow"

Wiki: "Surströmming is a type of fermented Baltic Sea herring."

OMG

This explains the way dogs greet each other ;-)

The Japanese and Koreans have similar fermented fish (a nicer word for rotten). I have tasted it and once out of the can it is not that bad - but an intense thing it is. The black metal of food.

It's a good idea . I don't understand the language but I think you should continue this.
