Langkawi, Malaysia

in #langkawi8 years ago

My travels started at Changi International Airport, Singapore on a Sunday at about 5 pm and with a flight time of about 2 hrs and 15 minutes, I was in Langkawi, Malaysia. The airport in Langkawi, Malaysia is small compared to Changi Airport but the relax atmosphere more than made up for it.

We were met on arrival by the representative from the house,  (Cloud 9) that we book the accomodation from, through Airbnb and driven to the house with 3 bedrooms surrounded by padi fields.  It was dark when we reached the house but I can still hear a cow mooing. We dumped our luggage in the house and headed immediately for dinner.

We headed straight for Pantai Cenang Beach area for our dinner as this place is well known for its sumptuous dinner with many eateries and pubs. It was a casual 15 minutes drive away.  After settling for a restaurant called Orchid Ria , we had a delicious meal costing us about  $RM150( ( $US 68) only for a table of 5 person. We made our way back to the house, showered and slept soundly with the airconditioning and fan turned on for the night.

The following day started with a visit to the Underwater World Langkawi where you can see many interesting wildlife of the sea that you may not have seen before. As there are many duty free shops around this area, we managed to do some duty free shopping after coming out of the Underwater World. Lunch was at a Korean Restaurant tucked away in a small lane off the main road called Haroo.  The food is authentic Korean as the owners are Koreans who have stayed in Malaysia for about 9 years.  The price is on the higher side though.

After lunch, we went to explore the town of Kuah as we wanted to try  some Korean dessert recommended by the Korean owners of the Haroo restaurant.  It was located in a shopping center in Kuah Town called Langkawi Fare and next to this building is a supermarket called Billion, where many locals shop, with a wide range of goods.  Langkawi Fare have many upmarket shops and for those that miss Mcdonalds like we do, a quick bite will satisfy this crave.

After shopping, we went for dinner at Pantai Cenang again but at another eatery called Happy Restaurant.  By the way, Orchid Ria was better in atmosphere and pricing.

Day two the next morning, we headed to the Langkawi Wildlife park where we got to see some interesting wildlife although the park is small in comparison to world class zoo. This is followed by some shopping in a shopping center called Langkawi Parade with cinema halls. This is the only shopping center that we caught some latest movies at a very cheap entrance tickets.

Day three the following morning after a good rest was spent going to Oriental Village and Cable Car Station.  This is a wonderful area to relax with good food, shopping for nick nacks and also a visit to the 5D museum for great photo taking. A word of warning here: do all the activities in the Oriental Village first before heading up the cable car.  The top of the cable car ride up the mountain and going to the Skypark is very strenous and tiring.  There were easily more than 200 up and down steps to climb before reaching the skypark. After the activities here, we went to a Buffalo Park  which is ridiculous  in terms of the time to drive there and the little things we got to see and do. What a waste of time overall. Dinner was spent in Kuah Town as we wanted to explore other eateries.

Day 4 was spent in the Kulim geoforest area with a boat ride to do some island hopping and cave exploring. The ride in the boat in choppy waters can be bumpy on the butt but it was great to feel the sea wind blowing in your face.  The cave visits was amazing as we found many bats hanging on the walls sleeping.  Feeding fishes in certain areas and eagle watching were also the highlights for the boat trip. At the end of our boat trip, we stop for lunch at a floating restaurant called Hole-in-wall restaurant.  The food is so-so but you can order fresh seafood from the net  and cook fresh.

Spending the rest of the day shopping again as our last day in Langkawi comes around is relaxing,  with dinner finding us at Pantai Cenang beach for some great food.  Alas this is our last night in Langkawi and we have to depart for home early the next morning.
