Roonagh Point, Co. Mayo, Ireland

180430-irl-mo-015.jpg

Marking the southern entrance to Clew Bay, Roonagh Point is the jumping off point for Clare Island, which stands at the mouth of the bay. The pier is visible here at the bottom left of the photograph. It offers little protection from the Atlantic swell, however, and sailings are often cancelled.

The dramatic cone of Croagh Patrick dominates the landscape, and the islands of Clew Bay can be seen to the left of the image. You can even see the speck of white that is Inishgort Lighthouse, which marks the safe entrance to Westport Harbour in the maze of islands.

Looks like an amazing place. I'll have to go there one day.
