Explosive Storm Wave Batters Cromwell Point Lighthouse

Ireland took a beating in early 2014 with storm after storm crashing into the coast from the Atlantic. This image was made on February 8th at Cromwell Point on Valentia Island, Co. Kerry. A huge wave threatens to engulf the lighthouse. In fact, the road leading to the lighthouse was washed out during the storms. I had to wait quite a while to capture this particular image, missing a couple of big waves before I finally caught this one in a burst of frames. To me, it shows the explosive power of nature and is a reminder of just how tough an environment the sea can be.
