Falljökull Glacier Hike Part 2 - Iceland
This is the part 2 of my glacier hike on Falljökull. In this part there gonna be mostly photos because I already talked about everything in the part1. If you are interested in what the glacier actually is, how deadly it is, what is the essential equipment, why you can't drink only glacier water, some fun facts and overall info of this hike then don't hesitate to see the first part.
Now I was at the highest point of our trip, there was no way we could go any further( read in the first part why ).
Let look at some more photos shall we?
Better not to fall in this cave.
One thing I didn't explain in the first part is why is some of this ice so blue?
As you can see most of the ice is whit and it usually is everywhere else right? The blue ice is the ice that hasn't seen any sunlight in its lifetime. When glacier ice forms its blue and stays blue all the time until it sees sunlight and then in a short time frame it turns white. That's why you can see most blue in the shady areas or in the caves.
Whenever you see the ice like in the photo below, you should never go under it to take photos or whatever.
If this ice roof collapses you will be in a huge trouble because it weights hundred of kilograms and it will crush you like a bug.
Overall this was one hell of an experience. Whenever you are in the area where are glaciers and you don't have anything against hiking then I strongly advise you to try it out. It wasn't hard, of course tiring so I don't recommend it for people who might have a health problem which prevents you to push yourself to an effort in order to get up there.
This certainly wasn't my last glacier trip!
