RE: Photo Series #36: Landscape Photography | Monument to a Careless Hiker | Reminder Message

I totally agree with you @mrprofessor! If we don't preserve the earth then we'll wither away just like it. But sadly, not everybody knows and realizes this.

And I have a similar story with you about one irresponsible act of "hikers" in the mountain that left 350 hectares of it burned to the ground. 350 HECTARES! It's the tallest mountain in our area, and from the city where I live, I can see it, and its damage.

Thanks for commenting @bikerkiddo, it means a lot!

It's really sad to hear that, 350 he is A LOT of land. It's even more sad to know that most of this 'accidents' are caused by the ones who should take care of it.
Check this news from 2011, what happened in Chile.

Indeed. Hikers should be fully responsible to be stewards of the forests. And they should serve as a good example to non-hikers to preserve nature. It's sad a few of them hike just 'for the 'gram'. Or a few of them aren't just aware of the consequences of their actions - nevertheless, it's not an excuse.

Just checked the link. Woah. The worst part is it happened not once, but thrice. It would definitely take centuries for this part of the mountain to regenerate.

Yeah! Patagônia is super dangerous, the climate is very dry.
I've seen a glass bottle set fire to some land by the road. Possibly someone threw it there and it acted as a magnifying lens.

Wow that is scary. More reasons for people there to be extra careful and responsible when disposing litter.
