Lake Como (Lago di Como) is one of the most beautiful natural wonders of Lombardy.
Lecco
Lecco is a small town located on the south-eastern shore of Lake Como, 50 km from Milan. According to the latest census, about 48 thousand people live in it. Lecco is the administrative center of the province of the same name. In the north and east of the city, the so-called Bergamen Alps, divided by the valley of Walsassin, rise.
Where Lecco stands, Lake Como narrows and forms the Adda River - through it a lot of bridges have been built to improve the transport connection with Milan. In Lecco itself there are four bridges across Addu - the bridge of Azzone Visconti (1336-1338), the Kennedy bridge (1956), the Alessandro Manzoni bridge (1985) and the railway bridge.
Archaeological finds indicate that the first inhabitants of these places were the Celtic tribes. Then came the Romans who built kastrum - a type of military settlement and turned it into an important transportation hub. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the 6th century, the city was captured by the Lombards, later replaced by Franks. A lot of time in Lecco was spent by Emperor Otto I the Great who suppressed the uprising of 964, raised by the local Count Atton against the Holy Roman Empire. Emperor Conrad II also stayed here, who wanted to liberate the city from the ecclesiastical authority. Then Lecco became part of the Milan duchy and only in the middle of the 19th century together with the rest of Lombardy became part of the united Italy. During the Second World War, this city was an important hotbed of guerrilla warfare against the German invaders.
Today Lecco is a popular tourist resort. In the city there are about one hundred historical and cultural monuments, among which is the small Romanesque basilica of San Nicolo, the Palazzo delle Paurea, the theater Della Sochieta, the Palazzo Bovara and the church of Santa Maria.
I used information about the city of Lecco from here.
I was in this place during my trip to Milan. It was in April. In those days in Milan was a major international exhibition of furniture. All the hotels in Milan were overcrowded, and those that were available were very expensive.
For this reason, I booked a hotel away from Milan. Since I still rented a car a distance of 20 kilometers from the city for me it was not important.
It so happened that my hotel was located on the road between Milan and the city of Bergamo. A half hour drive from my hotel was Lake Como.
Lakes in the north of Italy - this is a separate story. These are very beautiful places. These are mountains and blue lenses of lakes.
Lake Como (Lago di Como) is considered one of the most beautiful natural wonders of Lombardy. Located 40 kilometers from Milan, Como has become a favorite holiday destination for both Italians and foreign tourists. In addition, the beauty of this mountain reservoir is forever imprinted in films that have gained worldwide popularity: "Star Wars", "Ocean's Twelve", "Casino Royale".
Having a property on the shores of the Alpine lake of Como is quite prestigious. This place was chosen by many celebrities who own luxury villas: Madonna, George Clooney, Sylvester Stallone, Ronaldinho and others.
The best time to visit this northern pearl of Italy is spring, when the thermometer does not rise to too high temperatures. Once you arrive at your destination, thousands of tourist destinations will open before you: you will be able to choose one of the many themed itineraries that the area offers, reveling in the greenery of the gardens and the luxury of the villas, admiring the Romanesque churches scattered over the territory, or focusing on the beautiful rational architecture, Discovering the places that famous personalities, such as Alessandro Mandzoni or Alessandro Volta, admired. And then archaeological finds, museums, ancient ramparts, old castles: the territory adjacent to Lake Como, offers the tourist a wide range of opportunities that will make the vacation extremely pleasant.
This song of Como I've found here
I arrived in the town of Lecco at sunset. The sun had already set off over the mountain and a shadow had set on the lake.
Ducks and swans swam on the lake. The water is very clear. It smelled nice. The smell of great fresh water. I did not have time to make a few shots, it was night. Unfortunately, I did not have a tripod with me, so I had to take photos from my hands. And after, I just put the camera on the parapet.
In any case, I am very glad that I visited this place. The lakes of northern Italy are pearls that you must always see.
