Thoughts about the warm sea of Greece in the days of cold Russian winter

Today in came out of the house to take a walk. The snow creaks underfoot. Without the cap and gloves you begin to freeze and lose interest in the walk.

Nafplio is a seaport town in the Peloponnese in Greece that has expanded up the hillsides near the north end of the Argolic Gulf. The town was an important seaport held under a succession of royal houses in the Middle Ages as part of the lordship of Argos and Nauplia, held initially by the de la Roche following the Fourth Crusade before coming under the Republic of Venice and, lastly, the Ottoman Empire. The town was the capital of the First Hellenic Republic and of the Kingdom of Greece, from the start of the Greek Revolution in 1821 until 1834. Nafplio is now the capital of the regional unit of Argolis.

Peloponnese

Peloponnese is one of the few regions of Greece that can boast of the lack of industrial production, and, therefore, not only quality, but also health-beneficial resorts.

In addition, the Peloponnese is full of places that tourists regularly include in their excursion program. Well, firstly, it is the birthplace of King Leonid, who was at the head of 300 Spartan warriors, who for a long time detained a huge army of Persians. Secondly, on the territory of the Peloponnese is the city of Mycenae - the center of the most ancient civilization. Or, for example, the same Ancient Sparta, the birthplace of the most hardy inhabitants of ancient Greece. Another place of pilgrimage for tourists is Ancient Olympia, where once the Olympic Games were born, and today the International Festival of Ancient Olympia and the eco-festival Alfios are held. As for Epidaurus, here you can visit the oldest theater in the country, whose acoustics still amaze the minds of architects and engineers. Plus, every summer in Epidaurus there is a theater festival, the program of which includes staging masterpieces of ancient Greek drama - the works of Euripides, Aeschylus, Aristophanes and Sophocles.

As for the beaches, they come here both sandy and pebbly. If you travel with a child, the northern regions of Achaea and Corinthia will do the best - they are focused on family holidays. The southern part of the Peloponnese is focused more on noisy youth and active rest.

A little bit about the regions of the Peloponnese. In the area of Corinthia, by all means visit Loutraki and Xylokastro. Also popular is the coast of Sikia, which earned for its purity the Blue Flag award.

In Lakonia, too, there is a beach-owner of the Blue Flag - Archangelos, although the coast of Simos enjoys great popularity among tourists. In Elida, tourists prefer the sandy beaches of Kuruta, Chrisi Akti and Zakharo. Arcadia is famous for its coasts Lako, Astros and Tigani.

One of the most picturesque areas of the Peloponnese - Messinia, the Costa Navarino. And for families with children, a family beach near Kalamata-Stoupa is best suited.

Fans of active recreation in the Peloponnese will have the opportunity to try themselves in almost all types of water sports, as well as visit local tennis courts, play beach volleyball, basketball, and cycle bikes. And in Kalavrita, besides, is the second largest ski resort in Greece.

As you have already seen, the Peloponnese Peninsula is a beach holiday with numerous SPA resorts, centuries-old traditions of beautiful Greek villages, a wide variety of entertainment for every taste, a rich historical heritage, and all this against the background of forest, mountain and sea landscapes. Welcome to the Peloponnese!

Hiya, just swinging by to let you know that this post made the Honorable mentions list in today's #TravelDigest!

Great information on the Peloponnese islands! I was only able to visit Santorini when I was last in Greece (alas... I had 3 days) but I definitely want to go back to experience more of the "off the beaten track" islands. Great photos and post! Happy wandering ~Amanda
