Anthony Davis Rejects Max Extension?!?

Anthony Davis is not worried about money. He's put up huge numbers ever since his rookie year back in 2012 and is the epitome of a modern day big man. He's both a defensive player of the year candidate AND MVP candidate. He hits mid-range jumpers as well as three pointers consistently. The Lakers gave up a massive haul to trade for him- two former 2nd overall picks (Ingram and Ball), former first round pick (Josh Hart), and the pick that eventually turned into Jaxson Hayes. If Anthony Davis were to tell any team in the NBA he wants to play for them, every one would bend over backwards to make that happen. All that said, he was the one who chose the Lakers and they've had incredible success with him thusfar. What does he have to gain from waiting to sign now? Well, let's run through it:

  1. He puts pressure on the Lakers to make responsible decisions on his supporting cast and keep him happy.
  2. If Lebron were to sustain a serious injury that takes away the Lakers chance of being an elite team, he has some flexibility by waiting to sign
  3. AD wants the NBA world talking about his free-agency as long as possible. Last summer was HISTORIC in terms of floods of superstars switching teams. Since this Summer is expected to be much more quiet, why not hang tight and pick up a little extra PR to fill the news outlets?

Davis is sticking with the Lakers, in that much i'm certain. He's simply taking the smart route by taking his time before pulling the trigger.
