Winter sports enjoyed by many at Kurdistan Ice and Snow Festival

Snowfall in the mountainous region of Choman on the Iraq-Iran border attracted tourists from near and afar to enjoy winter sports at the Kurdistan Ice and Snow Festival.

Several activities were enjoyed at the one-day event held on Saturday including skiing, mountain climbing, sliding down snow-covered slopes and even traditional Kurdish dancing took place.

Choman District is located in the Erbil Province on the Iraq-Iran border 160 kilometers (99 miles) northeast of the Kurdistan Region’s capital city of Erbil.

The area is known for its mountains, green pastures in the springtime, lakes, rivers and waterfalls and attracts tourists year round to enjoy its natural beauty.
