Sat Narayan Kundalini Yoga Meditation
Dear Sangat Ji,
“Sat Narayan Wahe Guru Hari Narayan Sat Nam”
This mantra is especially useful to help you feel inner peace
through the powerful cleansing of the subconscious while clearing the energy around you.
Meaning of the words:
Sat Narayan:
- Sat Narayan means “True Sustainer”
- Narayan is Vishnu’s name, the “God of the Water”
- Other meanings or translations of ‘Narayan’ could be:
“Resting Place For All Living Entities” or the “One Who Rests
On Water”.
Wahe Guru:
- Infinite Wisdom, the Guru Mantra, the mantra of ecstasy,
elevating the spirit - Wahe Guru is the flow, it is a purifying and elevating
mantra, purifying body and mind
Hari Narayan:
- Hari is God in action both through creating and
destroying (Hariang) - Nar means “person”. Narayan then is the primal person,
like the blueprint of all people - A creative source that makes the one who chants it
intuitively clear
Sat Nam:
- Sat means “the Truth”; Nam means “to call upon, name
or identify with” - True Identity
- I call upon the Eternal Truth that resides in all of us
Directions for the Process
Seated in Easy Pose
Saturn (middle) fingers locked at throat level
Arms and elbows parallels to the ground
Eyes focused on the tip of the nose
This is as taught by Yogi Bhajan on the 26th of February
1980 in Hamburg, Germany.
This specific mudra will build up a tremendous energy in the highest centers, allowing us to speak the truth with focus and consistency.
Other instructions for the same meditation were given
by Yogi Bhajan at different times and occasions.
As always with Kundalini Yoga, follow the Tuning In
and Out before and after any practice.
How to pronounce the mantra:
Although Wahe is written with a “W”, it should be
pronounced not like “ouahe” but more like “Vwahe”,
with the lips puckered at the beginning of the word (Vw),
projecting the rest of the sound with an open mouth.
How to end the meditation:
When the meditation has finished, inhale deeply while
raising the arms above your head, hold the breath and
shake your hands for 10-15 seconds.
Powerfully and deeply exhale.
Repeat inhale-hold-shake-exhale once more with raised
arms.
Then lower your arms to your lap/knees and sit quietly.
Feel the vibrations of the mantra in you and around you.
Practice this meditation for 11, 40, 90, 120 or 1000
consecutive days and see for yourself the transformation
happening.
