The dogs of Krabi Noi Temple know us now as well
I often talk about how the dogs at Tiger Cave Temple recognize our truck and our people, mostly me, that go by there to look after them and up until recently that was the only place where this happened. Well, after our increased presence at the Krabi Noi Temple, which is right in the center of the city, the dogs there have started to get used to us and now respond in the same way when we come in. It is nice when you pull in, in your car, and a pack of dogs come running to greet you as soon as you open your door.
I have no illusions that they love me to death but whatever it is I am happy for it. We come here bearing gifts of food and snacks and the dogs are excited for this reason most likely.
Recently we have extended our health drive to this temple as well and even though we have been helping there somewhat in the past, we have been putting more effort into this centrally-located temple.
The dogs here are in relatively good shape but there is a bit of a problem of them constantly wandering off the temple grounds to seek out food especially at the morning market, which is only about a half km away. This is problematic because wandering dogs annoy the population and this is also a part of town where traffic is the heaviest even though Krabi is not a very populated city. We would prefer they stay put and one way to make that happen is to demotivate them to wander because the food they need is already at their home.
We also stepped up our sterilization here which will be easier than other projects because there are substantially fewer dogs here than other temples for reasons unknown.
We've taken in the only 2 females that we were able to identify with the help of the monks who live here and it is because of this new connection with the human residents that we are hopeful that we will quickly be able to get the rather small stray dog population here under control.
Of course this would all be impossible without the help of our donors as well as the assistance of the monks and nuns who live here and we are very grateful that they were extremely willing to work with us on this new project.
We continue to do all that we can for the stray animal population of Krabi and I would once again like to encourage everyone out there to do all that they can for the homeless animal populations near where you live either by donating your time or money, or simply by keeping an eye on the strays where you live.
