Gyeongbokgung Palace what a wonderful artistic building. The architecture and historic landmarks are so inspiring that I had to give a painting a try. I wanted a highly contrasted but colorful painting in a loose style.

I always start my painting with a under painting or drawing. This helps me get everything in the right places, so the painting has a good composition and tones. This takes some time but is worth the effort in the final painting.

I start out with glazes and work up the colors for blending and smudging after i get a feel of the painting.

I am working around the painting making sure that the color pallet is on track and not getting off track. It is very easy to color pick one wrong color and it ends up taking the focus away from the painting. I'm looking for harmony. Not any distractions for the viewer.

Now I start with the main subjects. The trees feel like they are painting themselves. I love when you get into a grove like that. Things end up smooth with feeling.

As I paint the palace I wonder who drew up the plans of such a wonderful building. They must have had a story to tell. I wonder if they thought about all the future generations that would marvel at the architecture achievements that they had done? I hope so. We all need to be proud of our own history and people.
