한국의 결혼식은 점점 서양화 되어 가고 있지만 전통적인 방식을 이어가고 있는것이 사실입니다.
Korean weddings have become more westernized but still stepped in tradition.

최근 신혼부부 평균 결혼비용이 2억원을 넘어섰습니다. 신혼주택 자금이 1억 9000만원정도로 대부분을 차지하는데 주택비용을 제외하더라도 결혼 비용은 8000만원에 달한다고 합니다. 주택비용을 제외한 결혼비용은 어디어 쓰여지는지 알아봅시다.
Korean average marriage cost exceeded over $200,000 from the recent record. The majority of the cost is buying house which is cost $190,000. Except the house only for the marriage is still cost over $80,000. So, I want to talk about how Korean people using huge money for marriage.

신부는 결혼전 예단을 신랑측으로 보내게 되는데 예단이란 신부가 시댁에 들어가면서 인사의 예러 마련하는 선물을 일컫는 말입니다. 전통혼례에서 예단의 범위는 신랑의 직계사촌에서 팔촌까지였으나 근래에는 보통 10명이 넘지 않게 준비를 합니다. 예단품목으로는 현물과 현금이 있습니다. 현물예단은 시어머니와 상의 하여 가족들의 원하는 품목을 선정하는데, 품목은 다음 사진과 같습니다. 이렇게 예단을 준비하면 보통은 천만원정도가 든다고 합니다.
First of all, the bride sent a “Yedan” to the groom, which is a gift as a greeting becomes part of the family. In the traditional wedding ceremony, the range of Yedan was from the immediate cousin of the groom to third cousin. There are spot items and cash. It costs about $10,000 for prepared usually.

예단이 끝나면 예비신랑은 혼례를 앞두고 1~2주전에 예비 시아버지의 편지와 신부를 위한 선물이 포함된 함을 신부집으로 가지고 갑니다. 요즘은 신부의 취향에 맞는 핸드백이나 화장품을 넣어주고 있다고 합니다.
After the Yedan, 1-2 weeks before the wedding, the groom takes a box containing the letters of the father-in-law and gifts for the bride. It’s called “Ham” in Korean. These days they’re putting handbags and cosmetics as a taste of the bride.

신랑측에서는 예물도 준비하게 됩니다. 예물이란 쉽게 말해 결혼반지를 포함한 귀걸이, 목걸이, 시계 등 예물세트라고 구성됩니다. 결혼 다이아를 메인으로 순금이나 진주등 상황에 맞게 선택하면 됩니다. 최근에는 예단, 예물을 생략하는 경우도 있습니다.
The groom also preparing an “Yemul” which is a set of jewelry including a wedding ring, an earring, a necklace, a watch etc. the jewelry would be different as the situation but usually diamonds wedding ring is the main and pure gold or pearls. These days, more people skipping Yemul.

한국의 결혼식은 주로 웨딩홀이라는 곳에서 이루어 지고 있는데 이 특별한 웨딩홀은 한 곳에 주차장부터 결혼식장, 하객접대를 할 수 있는 곳까지 거대하게 구비되어 있어 모든것을 동시에 할 수 있습니다. 한쪽 방에서는 신랑, 신부가 결혼식을 할 수 있고 그동안에 다른층에서는 하객들에게 음식을 접대할 수 있습니다. 주로 뷔폐식이지만 서양처럼 피로연 형식은 아니여서 식사를 하는동안 하객들은신랑 신부를 기다릴 필요도 없고 연설도 없으며 파티나 댄스도 없습니다. 웨딩홀에 도착해서 결혹식을 하고 식사를 마치면 모든것이 끝나게 되는 한국의 결혼식 과정은 매우 짧은 시간에 이루어 집니다.
Usually Korean people have wedding at place called “Wedding hall” which is serves every steps as a one stop. It is usually huge whole building that has many floors. Starts with underground parking, wedding hall, buffet etc, every floor has purposes. In this building Korean people don’t just have wedding but also have reception. When the couple having their wedding in a room with their family guests can have meal in another room. Big difference with western wedding is guests don't have to wait for new married couple, no speeches, no party or dancing. Whole process of wedding is really short. Arriving to the wedding, have ceremony, quick meal and leaving takes only 2 hours.

한국인은 편리함 그리고 신속함을 추구하기때문에 같은 빌딩에서 주로 몇개의 결혼식이 동시에 이루어 지는데 웨딩홀이 큰 이유는 이때문입니다.
Korean people prefer convenience and speedy wedding. Therefore, there are often few weddings going on at the same time but in different room.

한국 결혼식의 또다른 특별한 점은 대부분의 하객들이 결혼 선물로 돈을 준다는 것 입니다. 대부분의 돈은 부모님이 가져가게 되는데 결혼식과 피로연 비용으로 쓰이게 됩니다.
Another different culture is that in Korea the guests give money as a wedding gift. Mostly couple’s parents take this money and they paying for the wedding ceremony and reception.
