Understanding current issues of bitcoin | 비트코인의 현 이슈에 대한 이해

비트코인의 블록체인 네트워크에서 블록은 10분 동안의 거래 내역이고, 수많은 블록들이 쌓여서 전체 블록체인을 구성합니다.

현재 비트코인 블록의 크기는 1MB이고, 올해 초부터 비트코인 이용자의 수가 증가함에 따라 비트코인 블록에 포함될 수 있는 거래수가 한정되어 있기 때문에 비트코인 전송시간이 늘어나는 단점이 발생했습니다. 가상화폐로써 전송시간의 지연은 크나큰 문제점을 초래하고, 그로 인해서 이 블록 사이즈에 대한 이슈가 올해 비트코인의 가장 큰 이슈입니다.

Bitcoin Unlimited 또는 Emergent Consensus(이하 BU) 진영에서는 이 블록 사이즈를 마이너가 무제한까지 확대할 수 있도록 개편하자고 하고, 그 외 Bitcoin Core (이하 core) 진영은 지나친 변화보다는 우선 블록에 포함된 전자 서명을 제외하여 블록 사이즈 증대 효과를 누릴 수 있는 segwit을 주장하고 있습니다.

일견 두 주장 모두 타당해 보이지만, 속내를 들여다보면 각 진영의 꿍꿍이가 보입니다. 우선 비트코인 채굴에는 국내에서 대란 중인 그래픽 카드보다는 ASIC이라는 장비를 이용합니다. 이 장비는 그래픽 카드보다 특정 난이도 이상에서 더 좋은 성능을 보이기 때문에 그간 유리했던 중국 마이너들을 더더욱 유리한 포지션으로 이끌어 줍니다. 게다가 ASIC boost라는 알고리즘으로 이 격차가 더더욱 벌어지죠. 그러나 segwit이 활성화되면 적어도 ASIC boost라는 알고리즘을 사용할 수 없기 때문에 기득권이었던 중국 마이너들은 BU를 결성하여 core 개발자들에 맞서고 있는 상황입니다.

그에 반해 core 진영은 꾸준히 segwit 신호를 발신함과 동시에 라이트 코인을 통해서 segwit 실험을 성공적으로 수행하고, BU 진영이 segwit을 수행하도록 하는 강제적인 방법으로서 UASF를 8/1에 단행할 예정입니다.

투자자로서 이 UASF는 최악의 상황에 하드포크가 발생할 수도 있는 불확실성을 갖고 있기 때문에 해당 이슈는 면밀하게 체크하셔야 합니다.

그리고 오늘 비트코인 segwit에 작은 호재가 발생했습니다. 그간 BU 진영에 속해있던 GBMiners가 드디어 segwit 신호를 발신하기 시작한 것입니다. 최근 이더리움의 가격이 폭등하면서 비트코인의 위상을 위협하기 시작하자 어쩔 수 없이 core 진영에 가세한 듯한 모양새입니다. 이로써 UASF 이전에 안전하게 segwit이 시행될 확률이 높아졌습니다.

In a bitcoin block-chain network, a block is a transaction for 10 minutes, and a number of blocks are stacked to form an entire block-chain.

The size of the current bitcoin block is 1MB. As the number of users increases from the beginning of this year, since the number of transactions that can be included in the bitcoin block is limited, the bitcoin transmission time increases. Transmission delay is a major problem, and the issue of the block size is the biggest issue of bitcoin this year.

Bitcoin Unlimited (BU) or Emergent Consensus insists that the block size is need to be revised so that the minors can be expanded to an unlimited number. In contrast, Bitcoin Core (core) claims segwit to be able to have the effect of increasing block size.

At first glance, both arguments seem plausible, but when we look into the inside, we can see the faction of each camp. First of all, BU uses ASIC rather than GPU. ASIC device shows better performance over a certain level of difficulty than GPU, which leads to a favorable position for Chinese minors who have been already advantageous. In addition, the ASIC boost algorithm makes this gap be widening. However, when segwit is enabled, at least ASIC boost algorithm can not be used, so the minors who were vested in China have formed BUs and are facing core developers.

On the other hand, the core camp consistently sends out segwit signals, and at the same time successfully performs segwit experiments of lightcoin. They will run UASF 8/1 as a compulsory way, and it let BU perform segwit.

As a trader, UASF has uncertainties that may cause hard fork in the worst case, so we should check it carefully.

And today the bitcoin segwit has got a little cheer. In the meantime, GBMiners, which belongs to the BU camp, is finally starting to send segwit signals. As the price of ethereum has risen recently, it starts to threaten the status of bitcoin. This increases the likelihood that segwit will be enforced safely before the UASF.
