나이가 많이 든 느티나무
지지난 주 연휴에 문득 나홀로 거니는데, 골목 안쪽에 나무 한 그루가 서 있는 걸 발견했다.
가까이 다가가서 보니 몸통 한가운데가 뻥 뚫려 있다.
지방자치단체가 보호수로 지정한 나무다.
너는 뻥 뚫린 심장으로 비와 바람과 눈과 마름과 천둥을 마다하지 않았겠지?
아니, 마다할 수 없었겠지?
따뜻한 햇살과 시원한 안개도 있지 않았더냐?
가까이 혹은 멀리에 네 씨가 오랫동안 퍼지지 않았더냐?
멀지 않은 거리에서 당산나무가 벼락을 맞아 불타 죽는 것을 보지 않았더냐?
너는 지금 그 자리에서 그대로 살아서 나를 보고 있지 않더냐?
