Remembering to Protect Our Future

아직까지 날씨가 제법 쌀쌀한 뉴욕은 몇일 전부터 거리에 벚꽃이 활짝 피기 시작했다. 4/16일 한식 하우스 팀은 세월호 3주년 뉴욕-뉴져지 세사모가 주체한 집회에 다녀왔다.

After a long and cold winter, spring time finally has arrived and cherry trees just started to bloom in New York City. On 4/16 Hansik House team participated in the 3rd Annual Sewol Ferry Tragedy Memorial ceremony.

추모행사, 이송희 선생님 살풀이 공연

브루클린 브리지입구에 위치한 캐드맨 공원에서 추모행사가 진행되었다. 4월 중순.. 한 해 중 화창하고 싱그러운 때 아닌가. 이렇게 아름다운 봄날 수학여행길에 보내야만 했다니 마음이 정말 먹먹하다.

About 200 people gathered at the Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn to commemorate to the victims of the shipwreck. Since the incident, yellow ribbons have became the symbol of hope for our next generation in Korean society.

우리 학생들의 영정사진들을 앞에 두고 이송희 선생님의 추모 살풀이 공연이 있었다. 너무나도 맑은 날이었는데 갑자기 공연 중 하늘에서 빗방울이 떨어지기 시작하더니 공연이 끝남과 동시에 다시 해가 나왔다. 뭐 지나가던 먹구름일 수도.. 우연일 수도 있지만 그날의 사건만큼 믿기지 않는다. 아이들이 얼마나 억울했으면...

브루클린 브리지 추모행진, Brooklyn Bridge Commemorative March

맨하탄을 향하는 방향으로 브루클린 브리지를 행진을 시작했다. 관광객이 많은 브루클린 브리지 위에서 대략 200명 정도의 분들이 정말 질서 정연하고 평화롭게 행진하였다. 점점 무뎌지지 않았으면 좋겠다.. 우리 사회를 위해 뭉칠 수 있는 날로 대대로 기억하는 날이 되었으면 하는 바램이다.

The ceremony was followed by the march on the Brooklyn Bridge towards Manhattan. Though Brooklyn Bridge could be one of the busiest places in NYC, the walk was very organized and peaceful.
