"하지만 나는 정말로는 우리가 아직 알지 못하는 어떠한 과정을 통해 (생명이) "생겨났다"고 말하고자 했음에도, 여론에 굴복하여 창세기적 관점의 창조라는 용어를 사용한 것을 오랫동안 후회해왔네. 생명의 기원에 대한 그러한 생각은 헛소리일 뿐이고, 물질의 기원에 대해서도 마찬가지라네."

다윈은 '종의 기원' 2판에 "창조주에 의해"라는 말을 집어넣은 것을 오랫동안 후회해왔다;
"몇 가지의 또는 한 가지의 (원시적) 형태에 최초로 생명의 숨결이 '창조주에 의해', 그 여러 능력과 함께, 깃들었다는 관점에 장엄함이 있는 것이다;"
Darwin had long regretted to insert the phrase "by the Creator" in the 2nd Ed. of 'On The Origin of Species';
"There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed 'by the Creator' into a few forms or into one;"
불가지론을 가지고 있는 제 입장에서는 사실 '창조주에 의해'라는 말이 있어도 그만 없어도 그만처럼 느껴지긴 합니다;;
하지만 그걸 저자 맘대로가 아니라 당시 종교인들의 압력 때문에 넣었다는게 문제겠죠;;;
