Obelisk offered excuse after excuse pushing the delivery date further and further until 2019. However they were able to partly resolve the situation by forking Sia coin.

Obelisk is branch of Sia so they have control over the protocol. The fork bricked all none Obelisk miners lowering the difficulty of Sia and bringing up the profitability. This pleased those that bought Obelisk Sia coin miners.

Obelisk was not able to do anything to brick Decred miners from other manufacturers like Bitmain. Obelisk has no control over the Decred protocol since in order to fork the chain everyone on the network must reach consensus in order to do so.

Their solution to this problem faced by Obelisk Decred miner buyers was to offer a 300 dollar refund in Bitcoin. The miners cost around 2000 dollars depending on what batch you bought.

The $300 refund was a slap in the face of Obelisk Decred miner buyers.

Obelisk said that they could not fully refund peoples money because the money had been spent. They then made other ridiculous offers.

The funniest one was a Decred to Sia coin second generation board conversion for 1499 dollars on top of what the buyer had already paid.

To top it all of they would deliver not on the delivery date but on batch six which would likely be in the middle of 2020.

The next option was a Decred to Sia coin first generation board for 1199. If the buyer was familiar with ASIC technology they could just buy the first generation Sia coin board for $699 then install it themselves.

Not only did they deliver late and were beat to market by competitors from China who likely bought their technologies specs & parts from Obelisk manufacturers, but they overcharged their customers to convert their miners to a more profitable algorithm.

Those that bought Decred miners had two options to either get a $300 refund or pay more to convert their miners to Sia. Obelisk now has its eyes on the Grin algorithm and have launched another pre-sale.

Since they promised not to have another pre-sale they are calling them vouchers. Their other miners have a buy now button but they are not built yet and will take half a month to a year if the buyer is lucky.

InnoSilicon has also announced plans to build a Grin miner and they have beaten Obelisk to market in the past.

InnoSilicon has not only beat Obelisk to market but have built miners that outperform Obelisk miners.

If Obelisk had not forked Sia coin those miners would be worthless as well. Obelisk has no control over the Decred protocol nor does it have any control over the Grin protocol, so investing in Obelisk Grin miners is equal to investing in the now discontinued Obelisk Decred miners.
