Lantern festival in Korea, Jinju
There was a Lantern festival in Korea, Jinju. The lantern festival has been held every Oct 1st for 12 days.
We should go back to 1593 to know origin of the festival. When Japanese army tried to conquer Jinju castle, General Simin Kim floated lanterns on Nam river to block the Japanese navy who tried to cross a river which they has to cross to conquer the castle and also he utilized it as an military signal. Soldiers who are in the castle utilized the lanterns as a means of communication with their family as well. Over 70,000 people was killed by 120,000 the enemy at this battle.
After this battle, people started to hold an event to pray for casualties. This event had been turned into the Lantern festival.
There is a night market which you can find a lot of foods ( soup, bbq, skewers , snacks..)
I drank soju with my friend in the night market.
You can find many shows like circus, singing contest...
