I think that the introspection is maybe the hardest thing to do to oneself, because it requires to be objective about something that is so deeply subjective. I also believe that this is maybe the worst nightmare for some people, same like it is looking into the mirror and recognizing are we comfortable or not with what we see.
It probably is, as you say, the hardest, and I agree, it definitely has something to do with the fact that we are subjectively trying to be objective.
