" Laika " - Know the Mongrel Cosmonaut !!

November 3, 1957, exactly 60 years ago, Soviet Union (now Russia) made history in Space Science . Soviet Union sent the first living creature a living 'Dog' into Space Orbit named " Laika" in Sputnik Satellite.

Very few of us exactly know about "Laika", the dog. Today I came across few interesting facts and would love to share with all steemians:

1. Laika is the name of Russian Mongrel breed dog.
2. Scientist have choosen a stray dog for there experiment into Orbit.
3. Laika was choosen out of 6 dogs b'coz of its photogenic face.
4. Laika means 'Bark' in Russian language.
5. Laika is the first living creature sent on space through Russian spacecraft "Sputnik"
6. Laika was 3 years old and aged 6 kg, when she was sent to Space
7. Laika managed to survive only few hours, on her first voyage.

It was only because of her sacrifice, we were able to understand and explore space in a better way. Scientist have reached to Moon and Landed on Mars was only possible because of Laika's Sacrifice. We should be grateful to Laika.
