Organization of food/catering on a sailing boat (with Raspberry, PHP and SQL :D) [vid + eng subs]

My little documentation of our Bornholm trip must be set on hold for an other contribution, because the preparations for the Atlantic have to go on.

When I (at that time still one-handed) started with the planning for the big tour, the topic “food/catering” was pushed to the background. Naive I thought: Well, you do some real shopping, that will somehow work.
Then Claudi joined and we sailed a few times. I quickly realized that the subject is much more complex than I thought. At least if you don't want to live out of a bag like an astronaut.

Actually, the whole thing is limited to three problems:
1: Where is what?
2: How much is left?
3: How long is it durable?

The obvious idea is of course a LibreOffice/Excel list.

This has some disadvantages:

  • bad for use on the phone
  • only current locally on a device
  • difficult to automate

So I had the idea that I already have a Raspberry that builds a 1A WiFi and runs a web server. After chatting with Claudi about the desired functions, I was able to sit down and create the database and then at the PHP scripts. After a few evenings of coding (approx. 10h) the whole thing was already finished.

We made some small changes and fixed all bugs. All except one, as you can see on the video. (I had to laugh a little bit)

Wobei mich schon mal interessieren würde, ob man aus Kokosmilch Joghurt machen kann...
