Kitesurfing on the Baltic Sea - remote places are very close to you

in #kitesurfing8 years ago (edited)

In Poland, you can kitesurf in the obvious places and on a busy weekend it feels like this:

And that's fine - most people enjoy being part of a larger crowd.
Unless you bump into someone else, it's safe and might be fun.

.
But you can also do it like this:

Which I prefer.

I happen to know a spot on the south coast of the Baltic Sea which looks like this:

Even in mid July. The above photos were taken on Monday, July 18th at around 2 PM.

And no, you don't have to drive for 10 hours in a 4x4 truck to get there.
It's not remote from civilization.
Actually, you can eat a quality dinner in a restaurant which is 5 km away and looks like this:

When there are good wind conditions, I'll be going there for 2-3 day hikes this summer.
Anyone willing to join me, and feeling comfortable to kite on waves, please leave a comment.

EDIT: OK, I'm not gonna be selfish here. Anyway, those of Steem users who appreciate pure kiting (without spectators to cheer them up) deserve to know it.
This amazing place is near a small village called Stilo (also known as Osetnik), which is near the village of Sasino, 15 km east of a much bigger sea resort called Leba. It's a 1.5 h drive from the town of Gdansk.

And the spectacular restaurant is located in Sasino. The food and service there are quite famous for their high quality. More details about the restaurant available here.

Zapraszamy! :)

Looks like a blast of a sport. The crowded spot look DANGEROUS! Nice post! When were you last st that secluded spot? Is it a secret or can I go there?

There are dozen of seculded places like that in Polish Hel Peninsula. Perfect for learning kite surfing or windsurfing

I would't be so sure you can find a secluded place on the Hel Peninsula itself, especially in summer. This place is extremely crowded - it's a touristic hub with all side effects, e.g. traffic jams etc.

Actually, I'm quite happy about it. When 90% of people flock to one place, people like me can enjoy the natural beauty of the surrounding locations.

There are few tiny villages in between tourist spots. If you hike few kilometres along the sea side of the peninsula, you will find some deserted spots. At least you could few years ago.

It's dangerous indeed. I once had an accident with involved tangled lines of the other kite, and since then I've never really enjoyed crowded places. It's just scary for me, much more scary than strong wind and big waves.

After some consideration, I've revealed the "secret". It's a bonus for Steem users.

I can't imagine trying to surf with all those people!

My Country, My City <3

wooooooow. it like fun uyou dont even want to stop. ammazing ,elegant looking sky. nice

Could you tell a little bit more, where exactly is this place? :) In the other hand I will not be surprised if you will not want to spoiled it :)

I am also curious how difficult it is to lean kite-surfing. How many hours of training is required to do basic stuff?

I guess the learning time is very specific for each individual person. Some people (especially surfers) catch the idea just after a few hours of trying. In my case, it took a long time - something like 7-8 sessions (and each session included 2-3 hour lessons) before I managed to stand on the board and ride a few meters.

And the most surprising thing about this learning process is that you actually need to unlearn several automatic behaviors to be able to make progress. So it's not learning that takes time, it's the unlearning part that's difficult. Basically you need to make a leap of faith and let the kite pull you out of water. Most beginners tend to do whatever they can to fight with the kite and hinder its power.

You have the option ot either surf at the sea or on the other side of peninsula (it is about 1 km wide) in the Bay of Puck. On the Bay of Puck side, the water is very shallow for few hundred metres away from shore (about 1m to 1.5 m deep), so it is perfect spot for beginners of these activities.

Good Post, wait for the next part.
