Kitchen Appliances - December's Electricity Bill Has Arrived!
I had previously written that I got interested in electric pans/cookers, that I bought an air fryer and an electric pressure cooker on Black Friday 2018, that they arrived and I did some testing, and that my biggest worry was their impact on the electricity bill, as electricity is rather expensive here in Brazil. November and early December's bill had arrived, but since I had used the electric appliances only a few times back then, it still wasn't enough to give an idea of the impact.
As December 2018 passed, I went on using the two kitchen appliances. Some things took more time to fry / cook, others less, but to summarize... I got the number of times the appliances were used in total, summed the minutes they remained turned on (20 minutes from when I cooked beans + 40 when I cooked chicken etc.), then divided the total times of use and total minutes by 4 (because a month has 4 weeks) to get the averages. The end result was that, in the period of a month, on average, the pressure cooker was used for 50 minutes twice a week, and that the air fryer was used for 35 minutes twice a week. But what impact does this have on the electricity bill?

Last weekend, the December + early January electricity bill finally struck. And the result, in cost terms, was that...
- The electricity bill had a $5 BRL (Brazilian Real) increase (around $1.33 USD at the time of writing).
- But the gas bill also came and... had a $5 BRL decrease! :D
Although there was also the fan. Summer starts in December here in Brazil, and we had some quite hot days when the fan remained turned on most of the time, but I don't know how the fan impacted the bill. Either way, the $5 BRL cost pretty much got "transported" from gas to electricity, and in practice, it was as though nothing had changed! Phew, I think I can use my kitchen appliances more at ease now...
