Making KFC Chicken
KFC's "Original Recipe" chicken is made using a blend of 11 herbs and spices. The recipe is a closely guarded secret, but it is believed to include ingredients such as salt, thyme, basil, oregano, celery salt, black pepper, mustard, paprika, garlic, and white pepper.
Here is a recipe that is believed to replicate KFC's original recipe:
Ingredients:
4 cups vegetable oil (for frying)
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons salt
2 tablespoons dried rosemary
1 tablespoon dried thyme
1 tablespoon dried basil
1 tablespoon dried oregano
2 teaspoons celery salt
2 teaspoons white pepper
1 teaspoon dried mustard
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
4 cups buttermilk
8 chicken pieces (whatever cut you prefer)
Instructions:
Heat the oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, rosemary, thyme, basil, oregano, celery salt, white pepper, mustard, paprika, and garlic powder.
Dip the chicken pieces in the buttermilk, then coat in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
Carefully place the chicken in the hot oil and fry for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
Drain on a wire rack or paper towel to remove excess oil.
Note: The recipe is not the official recipe of KFC, it's a re-creation of the recipe.
