Located on the southernmost tip of peninsular India, Kanyakumari is an important tourist destination.

Embroiled in India’s rich mythology and history, this must-see tourism spot attracts nearly 2 million

visitors every year.

It is the only place, one can view the merge of three seas – Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea and Indian

Ocean.

The name comes from the Hindu Goddess - Devi Kanya Kumari. There is a Hindu mythological

legend associated with Kanya Devi, who is considered as an avatar of Goddess Parvati.

The Egyptian writer Ptolemy vividly describes the existence of commercial relations between

Western India through Kanyakumari and Alexandria. He identified Kanyakumar along with the Gulf

of Mannar as a center for pearl fishery.

Kanyakumari was ruled by Cholas, Cheras, Pandyas and Nayaks at various point of time. The

architectural beauty of the temples shows the exceptional craftsmanship of these rulers.

The modern Kanyakumaris history is connected with two states – Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Historically rich, culturally dynamic is also a noted piligrimage center.

Throughout the year, the climate has been moderate. Even the hot summer, Kumari is not as hot as rest

of Tamil Nadu.

Kanyakumari is well connected by rail and road from various towns of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The

nearest Airport is located in Trivandrum, the Capital of Kerala State which is located just 92 kms away .

There are lots of buses and other transport facilities available from Nagercoil and Madurai.
