what is justice?

Justice is defined as: “the quality of being just; righteousness, equitableness, or moral rightness: to uphold the justice of a cause”
Or in other words: “to act or treat justly or fairly”.
The old testament of the bible acknowledges justice in Matthew 5:38 which cites: You have heard the law that says the punishment must match the injury: ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.’
I recently had something happen to me that inspired me to write this. This is something I’ve been wanting to talk about for quit a while now.
As said. The punishment should match the injury. *LIGHTBULB, lets take a one (1) eyed man for instance vs a two (2) eyed man. The 2 eyed man stabs the one eyed man in the eye. Ok justice comes in and does it’s work and takes one eye off of the two eyed man. Now here’s the problem: the one eyed man lost his sight whilst the two eyed man only lost 50% sight still keeping the ability to see. Is this justice? Cause the one eyed man lost way more then the two eyed man losing his sight. So should the two eyed man lose both eyes? That's a bit much don't you think? So what is justice really???
If we humans believe in a “JUSTICE SYSTEM”, why do we lock up criminals?
Shouldn’t we steal from people that stole from us? But what if that person has nothing to steal from? So when is justice served?
Some say justice is served when the victim feels that the punishment equals the crime. But don’t we all have different feelings? For one person they feel a year in jail equals the crime for stealing but when a criminal steals something with emotional worth even if it has the same nominal worth, and the person feels 10 years equals the crime…what then?
What is the purpose of justice?
If someone kills your kid does killing his kid act as a action of justice? Will that make you feel better? Your kid is still gone.
I believe there is a certain point to which justice can be served and there is a point where there can be no justice served. There are some things, that no matter how much you try do or say, no matter what actions you take you will never find peace through justice.
The purpose of justice was to find peace. But there comes a point where only you can find peace with yourself
