Concoct-a-Verb Contest - by @blockurator - - - My Entry "Snewdling"
12-17-18
The contest challenge was: To make up, contrive, or invent, a VERB. I like to read, I sometimes write and try these challenges and contest. The names of the different parts that make up a sentence, well some times I have to refresh my memory.
Snewdling
Snogling
Snowgling
Swogling
Snowdling
This is not as easy as it seems. Those other four words above all had not only definitions, but twitter hashtags. Me, I have never heard of them, and what I visioned for my word was a small dog, or big dog bouncing through deep snow and his head only popping up every now and then above the snow. Thus Snogling like snorkeling in the water. Only doing so in the deep snow. I was after the first three going to try Snowdling, but that is in stories and has a definition, it is also used to describe tire actions on snow or ice covered roads.
So the new VERB is Snewdling.
Snewdling: bouncing through deep snow. Ex: Jamie's dog Roscoe was having a great time snewdling through the snow
Roscoe's Snow Romp
Jamie looked out the window. It was still snowing. It was snowing a lot. She could hardly see the burn barrel out back, the snow was three quarters of the way up it, and was piling real high on the lid. She thought it looked kind of funny.
It was boring inside, and Jamie wanted to go out side and build a snow fort, or a snow cave. Jamie grabbed her coat, hat, and gloves then yelled at her mom, “Mom me and Roscoe are going outside, Roscoe says he needs to pee”. Jamie knew her mom would let her go, she hated it when Roscoe peed in the house. For such a little dog he could pee a lot, but Jamie loved him.
So out the door she went with Roscoe. Roscoe loved the snow, and Jamie loved watching him romp and play. It was so cute when Roscoe would jump up and try to eat the falling snowflakes. Today though the snow was so deep that poor little Roscoe was pretty much buried in it, he was jumping and bouncing through it like a hopped up energizer bunny rabbit. His little head popping up every few feet. Jamie gave chase.
After running a little bit through the snow, she flopped down and called for Roscoe, she wanted to make a snow angel, and she want to help Roscoe make one too. She laughed and laughed as Roscoe came nose first out of the snow toward her.
Stupid Rules
Every contest has to have rules. This one's no different. They're stupid, but disregard them at your own peril.
- Rule #1: Concoct a verb. Give us the definition.
- Rule #2: Write a short story on your Steemit blog where one of your characters acts out your verb. You can't use the verb you concocted in your story.
- Rule #3: Your story can't be longer than 250 words.
- Rule #4: Your story can't have more than three characters.
- Rule #5: Link to your story in the comments of this post.
- Done
- Done
- Done Word count said 248 words on the story. (I use Libre OfficeWriter).
- Done Jamie, Roscoe, and Jamie Mom. (who said nothing because then I would have been over the word count.
- Will be done when I get the link.
For anyone else interested here is the contest link.
This is awesome! Love the verb. I think I've been snewdling, but it's been many years.
Off topic: How do you like LibreOffice? I've been using OpenOffice for years, but lately, it's been crashing. I open it and start writing, then it crashes and I have to recover the document. It's a pain in the rump. I recently went looking for an alternative and discovered LibreOffice, but I haven't downloaded it yet. You like it?
It seems to work pretty good. Sometimes some of the fonts can be hard to read, but I do not know if it is me or them. I don't use it a lot. but I do use it to help spell check, and count words. I do like the spreadsheet, and I have been playing a little bit with the database parts. So far the only three parts I have used. So for the limited time I have been using it, about 2 months), I haven't used word or works to write anything or use those programs it replaced.
Cool. I might have to try it out. OpenOffice is getting on my nerves.
