Walking the Edge

A lot of times people start projects and for one reason or another they drop the project. This empty lot has looked much the same since they seemingly abandoned it. They have the beginnings of a crawl space pit, and a small mountain of top soil and the land pretty much scraped clean. Looks like it has been at least five years or more since anything was done. So since I had some time, and it was not raining I decided to walk around the outer edges of the lot.

First up on the walk down the future drive way was a lone patch of dandelions. There were 3 bees sharing the flower with a small fly.

Gathering the small flecks of golden pollen as seen on the back of this bee:

The insect worlds gold dust...Pollen.

The thing with dandelions is I have a hard time getting a real nice clear shot of the global fluff ball. That does not mean I have given up trying.

The center seems to be almost in total clarity focus, I can see some individual little dandelion parachutes, I do like how the ground below is faded and blurry, and the outer edges of the dandelion globe have a soft feel/look to it. I am pretty happy with how it came out.

After the future driveway area, I stepped over to the future south side fence line. Here where a possible fence would go I found some high bush cranberries, at least that is what I think they are.

After I was done taking pictures of the cranberries I continued along the south edge to the east. A flutter of motion caught my eye. It was a butterfly. One that I had not seen before, we have some butterflies in Alaska, the yellow swallow tail types but I had never seen this one before, and it was fast.I felt like I was a ten year old boy with his first butterfly net chasing after it only this time I had a camera. I did not have very much luck, kind of like the very first butterfly hunt. I did manage to get a few point and click hope and pray I got a shot. I took a lot of pictures chasing that butterfly. This was the best I could do folks, but it was fun.

He was not easy to see so I circled it in the pictures. It was mostly brown with yellow edges. He flitted off into the trees and that was the last I saw of him, did not stop and rest once while I was trying to capture it with my camera.

The flowering stage of most of Alaska's Wild Flowers is almost over, there are some hold outs, like the dandelions, but also some of the Monkshood are still in bloom. Pretty flowers, but Most species are extremely poisonous[4] and must be dealt with very carefully. per wikipedia.

Like most members of the Delphinium family the blue color range runs the whole gambit of shades of blue. So even though i have more flowers, and more pictures I think I will finish the post with the twin peaks of dirt, they almost look like steempeaks logo, which I used to post this post. They have a nice method of photo handling when you use their site.
