Information Finding Championship - Season 1 : Round 23 - Introducing Slink
Introducing Slink
As Bashadow was entering his shop, he felt a small tug on his shirt sleeve. It was little Mia, and she looked rather upset."What has you so upset little Mia" he asked in a soft gentle voice.
"Is it true mister Bashadow, that the books are missing?" she asked in a small voice.
"I'm afraid it is Mia, but we have people scouring all over looking for them...."
"How will we hear our story time" Mia interrupted.
"Tell you what Mia, you go gather the children and meet me under the Impression Tree, and I will have a surprize for all of you.
Mia scattered to all corners of the castle getting all the kids to gather under the Impression Tree. Meanwhile Bashadow quickly cast a calling chant for Slink the red headed squirrel.
"Oh yes you do Slink, you see our children are rather upset, some scoundrel absconded with all our books, and I thought now would be a wonderful time to introduce you to them so you could move in here and get out of the forest, fall is coming soon and I thought that you might want to join me here, I have a nicely carved chair, and it would really help the children." Bashadow asked politely while finishing making the last of the sandwiches and pouring the glasses of juice for the children gathering on the grass under the Impression Tree.
"Do you think they will like me?" Slink asked in a somewhat nervous voice.
"Oh Slink, you do not need to worry about that, these children are special, they are so fun and loving, just like their parents. you really have nothing to worry about. So what do you say, move in, become a storyteller, friend to the children, all the peanut butter you want, within reason of course we can't have you getting to fat to scurry up trees after all." Bashadow asked in a confident manner.
Slink looked up at Bashadow, then scampered over to look out the window. He saw the children playing tag, and rolling around on the grass doing cartwheels, and in general just having fun. He made up his mind seeing all the fun they were having. "Yes I will stay. Do you think they would like a story about a spaceship flying across the Universe in search of fun and new flavors of peanut butter, while avoiding capture by the beach ball bandits?" he asked. Slink started to get worried he could hear the ticking of the clock, he looked at Bashadow, he hadn't said anything, nothing at all for what...well...seemed like hours..."Did I say something wrong Bashadow." Slink asked timidly.
Bashadow, broke into a great big smile and looked at Slink, such a worried look on his cute little face, He reached his hand out to Slink-"Come here you beautiful wonderful creature, I want to give you a hug. I think the children and their parents are going to simply go gaga over you. Okay now lets tuck you in here so we can really surprise the children, are you ready Slink to have the time of your life?" Bashadow asked. Slink in answer scampered up his arm and tucked himself into the inside pocket until his big reveal.
And with that Bashadow and Slink set of toward the children playing under the Impression Tree.....
maybe to be continued...
I finally got a chance to read your entry and I love it :) you have such an imagination and way with words. I want to sit under the Impression Tree and listen to Slink's stories! lol
This made me chuckle! Great story! I imagine the children's reaction to Slink would be full of giggles!
I would have to know it "True Name" then it would have to give permission to be called. Then I could call it, but will it come, sometimes yes sometimes no.
I am sure he will then,
What a great little story! Loved it! Made me smile wide numerous times reading that. Also Slink seems like an awesome lil creature! :D I hope to see Slink around more in the future! :)
It seemed people were liking the writing ones, so since I used Slink in a few of the free writes, (I am still not a great writer but I have fun with the short things), I thought I would try to do some writing where It didn't really count. (Round 23 is a catch up round), so I used it for practice.
I think you're a pretty good writer myself! You're very creative and imaginative which is more important than technical form in my opinion.
And.. Glad you decided to share your writing! I enjoyed it. :)
It was fun. I have been wanting to try some more writing so I brought my prop out to play. He was born out of an @aubreyfox writing contest late last year.
