Getting Old, Getting Healthy.
We are not getting any younger, Michelle and I. In fact no-one is, we all get older. And we both were very nonchalant about our health when we were younger, aren’t we all.
It was enough to wake up in the morning, go to work. 8, 9, 10 or 12 hours later we got home had dinner and went back to bed. We survived, we were happy to be alive and earning money to have something to look forward to when we retire.
There was none of this going to the gym, jogging to get healthy, palates or yoga. That was for rich yuppies, not for blue collar workers. Our gym was the job, no 90 min thing, it was an 8 hour slog!
Eating healthy? Yes, just getting three meals on the table, even if it was Mc Donalds or KFC was healthy, it meant we were not starving and going without (Something that my childhood was, no fault of my parents, just that the 70’s was the start of less work for more people and higher prices of living for everyone). Salad was for bunny rabbits, Vegans and snobs!
But now as we approach 50 and 60 respectively (Yes I am a toy boy, and Michelle is a cougar). Our mind set has changed, our health is now in question. If we keep going like we did we might not make it to retirement! We have lost so many friends in the recent years to Heart disease, Cancer, Strokes and all with in grasp of retirement, Michelle and I have had enough.
Enough of working from 5am to 5pm, enough of processes foods, enough of sitting around looking at our belly button and struggling to walk a few yards without puffing! We are hitting the road and want to see Australia before we get 6ft under. We want to feel alive and do things, not struggle and miss the wonder of this great land, like walking around Uluru, swim around the Barrier Reef, paddle our kayak in every dam and river, ride our mountain bikes at every rail trail and town and walk through our magnificent forests!
It is not a Midlife Crisis we are going through but a Healthy Midlife Transformation, we are now exercising, starting to eat healthy and watching what we eat, like less sugared foods, less bad saturated fats, more fruits, more veggies. We now have a Motrohome, a 2 person Kayak, Mountain Bikes, a camp oven and Webber Baby Q and our JBT/Juice Plus+ Program! We are set and soon we will be off proper on our adventure. And you can too!
