In memory of Mother Teresa of Pakistan, Dr. Ruth Pfau (9th September 1929 - 10 August 2017).

Dr. Ruth Pfau was a German-Pakisan physician, who devoted nearly fifty years of her life to fighting leprosy in Pakistan.
She was born on 9th September, 1929 in Leipzig, Germany. She had four sisters and one brother.

In the World War II her home was destroyed in bombing, soviets occupying East Germany made her to escape West Germany along with her family. She then choose medicine as her future career. Studied medicine at the University of Mainz.

She was very much keen to help the people, in 1960 at the age of 31, her cause moved her to Pakistan to rescue patients from leprosy who were abandoned by their families or locked in small rooms for a lifetime.

She started educating people and helping the patients getting rid of their diseases. She had spent fifty years in Pakistan for this cause. She was given Pakistani citizenship and some high civil awards by the authorities. Due to her continued efforts, the World Health Organisation in 1996 declared Pakistan one of the first countries in Asia to have controlled leprosy.

Early morning on 10 August 2017, Pfau died at the hospital in Karachi at the age of 80, leaving the whole country mourning for the death of this great lady. She will be remembered always in history.
