The Structure of LinkedIn Summary

in #jobsearch7 years ago

There are several version of how a LinkedIn Summary must be develop. Here is mine, based on the premise that from time to time people is requested to provide Cover Letters with Job Applications.

Since my view of the Covert Letter is that it must help the Recruiter / Headhunter to generate a positive +++ correlation between the applying candidate experience and the accountabilitities of the job being filled, then the LinkedIn Summary Structure I am going to proposed clones in about 80% what your Cover Letter should be:

In general terms I am proposing a LinkedIn Summary of about 3 paragraphs:

  1. The initial paragraph: {Who I´m & What I´m Searching For}: about your personal presentation heavily shifted or centered around your professional career in a 80%/20% mix. 80% about who you are as professional, your global experience, what are you searching for, and 20% about you as a person. In total no more than 7 to 10 lines.

  2. The second paragraph: {The Expertise I´m Selling to the Market}: about your ranked or prioritized experience of what you are selling to the market. Sell no more than 3 to 5 functional areas of expertise each in a given sub-paragraph.

  3. The third paragraph {KPI´s Drivers}: your personal skills, abilities, personality traits, and supervisory or managerial experience you may have to execute and produce results.

Bear in mind that the extraction of the data for the second paragraph cannot be done correctly if you do not do an audit of your past career´s job accountabilities you have performed.

The Second Paragraph is kind of a synthesis or integration of your past experience expressed in terms of selling pitch.

If you were drafting a Cover Letter you would be talking about what the company is asking for and not about what you know but the company does not care. These are two different perspectives.

Same ideas apply to the third paragraph. In both, second and third paragraph, you must centered on what the market is requesting, and you have, and not in what you may know or like. Keep your ego under control and avoid using buzzwords.

Once developed properly, you can use the LinkedIn Summary as a Template for developing Cover Letter in Real Time as you make job applications.
