Gianni Grippo defeated Paulo Miyao 3-2 with a last minute sweep to win the 145 pound tournament at the Kasai Pro 4.

I am not going to go into the details of the match but rather talk about the state of Jiu-Jitsu.

Gianno and Paulo spent a lot of the match locked up in the 50/50 position. Much has been made in the past few years that the 50/50 is dead, but this is far from the case. Mastery of the 50/50 is key to modern Jiu-Jitsu. As the rule set has evolved to where more tournament formats allow heel hooks for No-Gi the "reaping" position has also become extremely important.

The other big evolution is the death of the Berimbolo. Fighters like Keenan Cornelius have talked, and made videos, about this showing how easy it is to defend. The Miyao brothers are adapting to this to their credit, but the easy points they used to get are not there anymore.

This is the beauty of Jiu-Jitsu in that the evolution continues.
