What is interesting is some known faces and celebrities did spend time at Montauk even when they were children.
For example, here is a photo of JFKjr, his sister, mother and JFKjr's aunt, Lee Radziwill, who was his mother's younger sister and was married to he Polish aristocrat Prince Stanisław Albrecht Radziwill.
Upon her marriage she became Her Serene Highness Princess Caroline Radziwill. Her middle name was Lee, which sh went by most of the time. They had two children, Anthony (1959–1999) and Christina
Lee Radziwill died on February 15, 2019, aged 85, in New York City.

Eothen, a Montauk estate on the easternmost tip of Long Island, was the summer home of artist Andy Warhol for nearly two decades. Warhol purchased the property in 1971 for $225,000 when Montauk was still considered an off-the-beaten-path destination for vacationing New Yorkers. The five clapboard cottages which comprise Eothen — ancient Greek for “at first light” — are simple, humble beachfront structures. Under Warhol’s tenure, Eothen served as a low-key escape for his famous friends to decamp, unwind and (of course) debauch. Year after year, one would find a who’s-who hanging out among the simple, whitewashed structures: Jackie Kennedy, Lee Radziwill, John Lennon, Halston, Liza Minnelli, Catherine Deneuve, Elizabeth Taylor and Keith Haring. It wouldn’t be uncommon to hear The Rolling Stones rehearsing cuts from “Black and Blue” amid the dunes, or spot Julian Schnabel painting broken bowls en plein air along the sand. The beachfront site of Eothen also inspired Warhol himself, most notably in his “Sunset” series.
While the compound’s casual layout could never be replicated today — contemporary zoning laws mandate homes be built on a minimum of 10 acres, and set back at least 100 feet from the sea — the opportunity to host your own seaside salon is not wholly lost: Eothen is back on the market for $85,000,000. This series states Jonas Mekas captures captures a young Anthony Radziwill and John F. Kennedy Jr. dancing to a Rolling Stones recording at Eothen in 1972.
Anthony was born August 4, 1959 and died not long after JFKjr disappeared. Anthony's stated death at age 40 years old in August 10, 1999.
These cousins would have only been a little over a year apart as JFKjr was born November 25, 1960.
Ana Christina Radziwill (Tina) born August 18, 1960 so would have only been 12 as would JFKjr during this time. Her brother Anthony, 13 yrs. old.

Beale was born in New York City, the only daughter of Phelan Beale, a lawyer, and Edith Ewing Bouvier (known as "Big Edie"), the daughter of Phelan’s law partner, John Vernou Bouvier Jr. She was born at 1917 Madison Avenue (now the site of the Carlyle Hotel). She had two brothers, Phelan Beale, Jr. and Bouvier Beale, and had a privileged upbringing. Beale attended The Spence School and graduated from Miss Porter's School in 1935.
Known as "Little Edie," Beale was a member of the Maidstone Country Club of East Hampton. She had her debut at the Pierre Hotel on New Year's Day 1936. The New York Times reported on the event, where she wore a gown of white net appliqued in silver with a wreath of gardenias in her hair.
While Beale was young, her mother pursued a singing career, hiring an accompanist and playing at small venues and private parties. In the summer of 1931, Phelan Beale separated from his wife, leaving Big Edie, then 35 years old, dependent on the Bouviers for the care of herself and children.[citation needed] In 1946, he finally obtained a divorce, notifying his family by telephone from Mexico.
In her youth, Little Edie was a clothes model at Macy's in New York and Palm Beach, Florida. She later claimed to have dated J. Paul Getty and to have once been engaged to Joe Kennedy, Jr. (although in reality she only met him once). During the 1961 inauguration of John F. Kennedy, she told Joe Kennedy, Sr. that, if young Joe had lived, she would have been First Lady instead of Jackie. Once, Beale ran away to Palm Beach, where she was found by her father and brought home.

Before we go down the rabbit hole of some of these people known to have visited the island both while JFKjr and family were there for a summer and at other times, let's touch briefly on Plum Island. If your asking why just look at the location, then consider what is there.
Plum Island is an island in the Town of Southold in Suffolk County, New York, in the United States. The island is situated in Gardiners Bay, east of Orient Point, off the eastern end of the North Fork coast of Long Island. It is about 3 miles (4.8 km) long and 1-mile (1.6 km) wide at its widest point.
The island is the site of the Plum Island Animal Disease Center (PIADC), which was established by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) in 1954. The Island is also the site of the former U.S. military installation Fort Terry (c. 1897), and the historic Plum Island Light (c. 1869), and its automated replacement.
Plum Island is owned in its entirety by the United States government, which was considering sale of the island, but suspended the plan in February 2012. Access to the island is controlled by the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

It was established in 1897 and used intermittently through the end of World War II. In 1952, it became a military animal and biological warfare (BW) research facility, moving to civilian control in 1954 as the Plum Island Animal Disease Center. However, the biological warfare mission continued under civilian control until 1969.
A 1971 New York Times article described the facility as a "Devil's Island for the deadliest animal disease germs known to man," and described the elaborate security measures.

The Jed Johnson of TWA 1996 is interesting.
Jed Johnson (December 30, 1948 – July 17, 1996) was an American interior designer and film director. Initially hired by Andy Warhol to sweep floors at Warhol's Factory, he subsequently moved in with Warhol and for twelve years was his lover. As a passenger in the first class cabin, he was killed when TWA Flight 800 came down shortly after takeoff in 1996.
In 1967, Johnson and his twin brother Jay moved from Minnesota to Manhattan. Two weeks later, he delivered a telegram to the Decker building which was being renovated by Paul Morrissey before it became the new home of Andy Warhol's Factory. Johnson accepted an on-the-spot job offer to sweep floors, but quickly moved into editing several films including Andy Warhol's Dracula and L'Amour, and eventually directing Andy Warhol's Bad.
He picked out a townhouse for Warhol on East 66th Street and designed its interiors. He lived there with Warhol for a number of years.
Paul Morrissey
Paul Morrissey (born February 23, 1938) is an American film director, best known for his association with Andy Warhol. He was also director of the first film in which a transgender actress, Holly Woodlawn, starred as a cisgender woman and girlfriend of the main character played by Joe Dallesandro in Trash

His photographs of Africa, African animals and the journals that often integrated his photographs, have been widely shown and published since the 1960s.
Peter Beard was born in 1938 in New York, the son of Roseanne (Hoard) and Anson McCook Beard, heir to a railroad fortune. He was raised in New York City, Alabama, and Islip, Long Island. Beard began keeping diaries as a young boy and making photographs, as an extension of the diaries, at the age of 12. A graduate of Pomfret School, he entered Yale University in 1957, with the intention of pursuing pre-med studies, only to switch his major to art history. At Yale, he was tapped into the secret society Scroll and Key. His mentors at Yale included Josef Albers, Richard Lindner and Vincent Scully. Beard graduated with a B.A. in 1961.
On the afternoon of March 31, 2020 Beard, who was suffering from dementia and ill health after a stroke, wandered away from his Montauk, Long Island home. Despite exhaustive searches he was not found.[24]
On April 19 Beard's body was found by a hunter in a densely wooded area in Camp Hero State Park in Montauk Point, New York. As of April 20 a cause of death had not been determined.
Elia Kazan
a Greek-American director, producer, writer and actor, described by The New York Times as "one of the most honored and influential directors in Broadway and Hollywood history".

After attending Williams College and then the Yale School of Drama, he acted professionally for eight years, later joining the Group Theatre in 1932, and co-founded the Actors Studio in 1947. With Robert Lewis and Cheryl Crawford, his actors' studio introduced "Method Acting" under the direction of Lee Strasberg. Kazan acted in a few films, including City for Conquest (1940).
A turning point in Kazan's career came with his testimony as a witness before the House Committee on Un-American Activities in 1952 at the time of the Hollywood blacklist, which brought him strong negative reactions from many liberal friends and colleagues.
After struggling to be accepted by them, he discovered his first strong sense of self in America within the "family of the Group Theatre, and more loosely in the radical social and cultural movements of the time," writes film author Joanna E. Rapf.
In Kazan's autobiography, he writes of the "lasting impact on him of the Group," noting in particular, Lee Strasberg and Harold Clurman as "father figures", along with his close friendship with playwright Clifford Odets. Kazan, during an interview with Michel Ciment, describes the Group:
This group included, Crawford was a lesbian, and was linked romantically with her fellow Group Theatre actress Dorothy Patten, with whom she lived for several years in the 1930s. Patten had also financed several of the group's shows. Patten and Crawford visited each other's family homes in Chattanooga and Akron. Following her break-up with Patten circa 1937, Cheryl Crawford later became the lifelong partner of chef Ruth Norman.
Roy Halston Frowick
In the early 1950s, while attending the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Halston began a business designing and making women's hats. He garnered a well-known clientele and opened a store on Chicago's Magnificent Mile in 1957. He later became the head milliner for high-end New York City department store Bergdorf Goodman. His fame rose when he designed the pillbox hat Jacqueline Kennedy wore to the inauguration of her husband, President John F. Kennedy, in 1961. In the late 1960s, Halston made the transition to women's clothing, opening a boutique on Madison Avenue in New York and started a ready-to-wear line. After several ill advised business decisions, Halston eventually lost control of his fashion house in the 1980s. He died of AIDS-related cancer in 1990 at the age of 57.
My question becomes, why were Jackie and her sister Lee associated with these people? I mean no disrespect, but it is clear when you look at the counter culture the group of people heralded and pushed. . .makes you ask, why bring the children here to mix and mingle? Was there something that lies beneath in which the only way to discover it was to mix and mingle with the group?

On October 30, 1938, CBS gained a taste of infamy when The Mercury Theatre on the Air broadcast a radio adaptation of H. G. Wells's The War of the Worlds, performed by Orson Welles. Its unique format, a contemporary version of the story in the form of faux news broadcasts, had panicked many listeners into believing invaders from Mars were actually invading and devastating Grover's Mill, New Jersey, despite three disclaimers during the broadcast that it was a work of fiction. The flood of publicity after the broadcast had two effects: an FCC ban on faux news bulletins within dramatic programming, and sponsorship for The Mercury Theatre on the Air, becoming The Campbell Playhouse to sell soup. Welles, for his part, summarized the episode as "the Mercury Theatre's own radio version of dressing up in a sheet and jumping out of a bush and saying 'Boo!
Fast forward to after the 1950's

In 1950 the FCC approved the CBS system over the RCA compatible approach, mainly because the picture quality was superior.
In 1951 CBS began test broadcasting, using a field-sequential system of 405 lines, 144 fields per second, incompatible with the NTSC black-and-white standard.
The first network broadcast of the CBS system featured Arthur Godfrey and Faye Emerson, and was shown on June 25, 1951, from 4:30 to 5:30 PM:
Several local TV stations broadcast the color programs, including WEWS in Cleveland, which participated with Zenith in having sets shipped to Cleveland for display at the Sears store. Here is the text of the announcement the station made when CBS color programs were being shown:
A few receivers were manufactured for the CBS system, including models made by CBS, Sears-Silvertone and Zenith. Converters were sold to turn a black and white set in color. Some people made their own converters. Due to the Korean War, CBS stopped color broadcasting 4 months later.
CBS also developed an all electronic color TV system which was a projector type having the equivalent of a 22 inch screen. Three images were produced on the face of the tube and these were combined optically.
In late 1953, with the adoption of the NTSC system, CBS introduced its Chromacoder system, which used a field sequential camera and equipment to convert to NTSC.

Jackie Kennedy Onassis got Jonas Mekas. The underground filmmaker, who shot Andy Warhol's Empire, came up to Warhol’s estate in Montauk, on the eastern tip of Long Island, to instruct her children John ‘John-John’ F. Kennedy Jr. and Caroline Kennedy how to take both still and moving pictures.

In 1964, Mekas was arrested on obscenity charges for showing Flaming Creatures (1963) and Jean Genet's Un Chant d'Amour (1950).
Flaming Creatures shows performers dressed in elaborate drag for several disconnected scenes, including a lipstick commercial, an orgy, and an earthquake. It premiered April 29, 1963 at the Bleecker Street Cinema in New York City.
Un chant d'amour (French pronunciation: [œ̃ ʃɑ̃ damuʁ]; English: A Song of Love) is French writer Jean Genet's only film, which he directed in 1950. Because of its explicit (though artistically presented) homosexual content, the 26-minute movie was long banned.
Neither of the Kennedy scions put these skills to professional use in later life, yet Mekas’s own footage shot that summer has survived and is currently on show at the Boo-Hooray Summer Rental exhibition space, in Montauk, until 14 July.
It was actually Jackie’s sister, Lee Radziwill, who rented the Warhol property and formerly booked Mekas to teach her niece and nephew, though the social arrangements during that summer certainly look pretty loose, judging by the pictures. Andy, Mekas, the Kennedy kids, and the US artist Peter Beard drift through the frames, shooting horror-movie recreations, flattening pennies on the local railway tracks, and miming along to Rolling Stones records.

Kennedy Jr.’s radio was a “digit off the proper frequency” during his final flight on July 16, 1999. This surprising detail, which remained hidden until now, reveals he wasn’t able to communicate with air traffic control after leaving from Essex County Airport, New Jersey, in his Piper Saratoga aircraft the day of the crash.
“I don’t know whether that was due to the impact or whether it was truly he just didn’t have the proper frequency tuned in,” says Jeff Guzzetti, a member of the National Transport Safety Board investigative team that compiled the report about JFK Jr.’s final flight. “I documented that in the report.”
Not only did JFK Jr. get a “late start” that fateful afternoon, he opted to take the more risky route over Long Island, which made visibility an issue. “Right after Montauk, you’re all the way over water from Montauk to Block Island, and then it’s all over water, so you have less of a horizon.

The least significant digit on most US aircraft radios changes frequency in 25 kHz steps. Unless the two stations are very close, they won't hear each other.
That said, no self-respecting pilot needs a radio to fly the airplane. The radio can help but its failure is not even an emergency in most cases. There is a well-defined procedure for radio failure, even in "the soup".
While the NTSB examined the wreckage, they soon discovered that both of Kennedy's radios had incorrect frequencies selected. Kennedy had accidentally selected 127.25 for Martha Vineyard's ATIS instead of 126.25; likewise, he selected 135.25 for Essex County ATIS but it should have been 135.5. The NTSB declined to comment on the contribution this factor had in the crash, if any.

What looked like a financial swindle, soon exploded into a hideous tale of drugs, Iran-Contra money-laundering, a nationwide child abuse ring, and ritual murder.
Nineteen months later, the legislative committee's chief investigator died - suddenly, and violently, like more than a dozen other people linked to the Franklin case.
Author John DeCamp knows the Franklin scandal from the inside. In 1990, his "DeCamp memo" first publicly named the alleged high-ranking abusers. Today, he is attorney for two of the abuse victims.

Boys Town was founded on December 12, 1917, as an orphanage for boys. Originally known as "The City of Little Men", the organization was founded by Edward J. Flanagan, a Roman Catholic priest, while working in Omaha, Nebraska, who rented a home at 25th and Dodge Streets, in Omaha, to care for five boys, using a loan of $90.
In 1988, authorities looked into allegations that prominent citizens of Nebraska, as well as high-level U.S. politicians, were involved in a child prostitution ring.[3] Alleged abuse victims were interviewed, who claimed that children in foster care were flown to the East Coast of the United States to be sexually abused at "bad parties". The claims primarily centered on Lawrence E. King Jr., who ran the now defunct Franklin Community Federal Credit Union in Omaha, Nebraska, and alleged that the ring was "a cult of devil worshipers involved in the mutilation, sacrifice and cannibalism of numerous children". Numerous conspiracy theories evolved, claiming that the alleged abuse was part of a widespread series of crimes including devil worship, cannibalism, drug trafficking, and CIA arms dealing.
Ted Gunderson was quick to see the correlation between the case and ritualistic along with the "honey pot" theme of an elitist corrupt scam which operated with similar stories from victims as in the McMartin Preschool.

The McMartin preschool trial was a day care sexual abuse case in the 1980s, prosecuted by the Los Angeles District Attorney Ira Reiner. Members of the McMartin family, who operated a preschool in Manhattan Beach, California, were charged with numerous acts of sexual abuse of children in their care.

King was noticeably absent from the controversy that swirled around him. On February 7, 1990, US Magistrate Richard Kopf ordered that King be sent to a federal medical facility in Springfield, Missouri for a “mental health evaluation” without a formal motion from King’s attorneys. King was picked up and dispatched the day before President George H. W. Bush was to speak at a political fundraiser in Omaha. Having named Bush as one of his personal “friends,” King had reportedly purchased a ticket for the event and had subsequently been detained by the Secret Service.
In July of 1989, Senator Schmit released a three-page report urging his subcommittee to “find out where the money went and you’ll find the rest,” because their previous tactics had yet to yield an indictment. As an example, Schmit cited a $2,800 credit card receipt that showed King had purchased a coat for a man who was later found shot to death. His death would unconvincingly be ruled a suicide.
This shift in direction of the subcommittee prompted three members, including its chief investigator Jerry Lowe, to resign. In a World-Herald article, Lowe stated that Schmit informed him that there was “pressure to stop the investigation,” which Schmit confirmed: “I have gotten phone calls threatening me. I’ve been told to leave it alone or my kids were going to be orphans.”
After Lowe resigned, Schmit called upon Gary Caradori to succeed him as the Franklin subcommittee’s chief investigator. Assuming undercover disguises from priest to plumber, Caradori had a talent for finding teenage runaways enmeshed in prostitution and drugs. Caradori, a former Nebraska state patrolman, had founded an investigative firm in Lincoln, Nebraska, and the Lincoln Journal loved him: “When the police tell you their hands are tied ... when your only witness has skipped town and when the justice system seems like it’s breaking apart, people call Gary Caradori.”
Caradori went to work immediately, finding new victims and perpetrators …and enemies he never anticipated. “An old friend of ours who used to work for Lincoln Telephone came to the house and told us our phone was being tapped,” says Caradori’s wife, Sandy, a middle school English teacher. “He already suspected it. When he arranged meetings over the phone, FBI agents would already be there when he arrived.” Sandy | Audio Clip One
In November and December 1989, Caradori interviewed Alisha Owen, Troy Boner, and Danny King (no relation to Larry King), all in their early 20s. Owen was serving time in the Nebraska Center for Women at York for writing bad checks, while Boner and Danny King were living in the Omaha area. Caradori recorded their sworn testimony on over 20 hours of videotape, where they described being flown around the country as underage prostitutes and attending grotesquely sadistic pedophiliac orgies. Larry King, they said, had organized it all.
In December 1989, Schmit’s subcommittee gave the videotaped statements to Attorney General Spire and Nebraska’s US Attorney.(Caradori videotaped a fourth victim, Paul Bonacci, in May of 1990, who corroborated Owen, Boner, and Danny King.)

There's another story about Montauk which nobody knows. It's not part of the United States. Old treaties going back to the 1600s, before the American Revolution. Suffolk County NY used to be part of Connecticut, when Montauk was called "Meantaucket." The "town" of East Hampton has a second "shadow" municipality, called "The Trustees for the Freeholders and Commonalty of East Hampton." If you call them on the phone, they explain they have a charter from the King of England. The "Proprietors of Montauk" are today known as Montauk friends of Olmstead Park.
