Introducing Noqra...helping rebuild Afghanistan one necklace at a time

in #jewelry7 years ago

I admire social entrepreneurs. Whatever the size of their commitments, social entrepreneurs make the choice of giving an aim to their work, bringing a meaning to their business, helping make a change. And big changes don't always happen overnight, oftentimes it takes years if not generations but the most important is that change happens.

We all know how much the history of Afghanistan has been troubled by wars and instability. From the soviet invasion to the taliban rule the country has suffered a lot and keeps on suffering. With instability, comes lack of opportunities and poverty. People lose their jobs, businesses lose their clients, children lose their education.

But after every war comes hope. The hope that the country will slowly rebuild and flourish again. This is exactly was Noqra is trying to bring to Afghan artisans. Established in Germany by two afghan sisters, Noqra sources its raw materials (silver, gold and lapis stones) in Afghanistan. Designing their jewellery themselves, Noqra subcontracts the manufacturing to a number of artisans in Kabul helping them not only put bread on the table, but very often rebuild houses and send their kids to schools. It also help rebuild the image of Afghanistan to its former glory.

At Imoshen, the mobile app I have launched one year ago, we are proud to have added Noqra as one of our vendors. Our users will now have the opportunity of buying Noqra's beautiful and affordable jewellery for themselves or as gifts to their loved ones. By featuring Noqra and helping them grow their sales, we hope to bring that drop of water that could eventually transform into an ocean.
