PROFITS OVER PATIENTS? (Near death experience)_SWC

Hello steemians, it's your boy @geyzee on it again. Well I'm here to share the near death experience of my twin brother(Gabriel), it all occurred on a fateful Saturday morning 9th of july, 2016 to be precise, our first days in the tertiary institution.
It was a Saturday meant for school compound sanitation, it's not a compulsory school activity, but as a law abiding student we decided to engage ourselves in the normal school sanitation. My twin and our fellow roommates where trying to keep the surrounding clean, we did it with extreme joy that on the course of working, my brother encountered an accident by slipping over a rough surface and hit his head on the process which took him on coma immediately. I could remember vividly, he woke up after 2 days and also how I and my friends narrated how we rushed him to the hospital and on carrying out some test he was diagnosed of being infected with a life threatening disease called Hepatitis C which is a contagious virus that attacks the liver leading to inflammation, scarring and sometimes even cancer.

The doctor made it clear to us that the possible cure to the disease is getting SOVALDI tablets which is a drug that blocks a protein needed by the hepatitis C virus to replicate. However, he also made mention that the drug comes with a huge price tag. For a 12-week treatment course, sovaldi will cost approximately $84,000 and a pill costs $1,000 per day in the school pharmacy.
The sovaldi drug:

On hearing this, we pleaded with the doctor on getting $800 as the price tag for at least 1½ pill, as my twin was to write a scholarship exams in two days time. But despite our pleading, the profit of the drug wasn't going to be undercut in any way.
Seconds turned to minutes, minutes turned to hours and nothing was done, the sickness grew worse:my brother was at the brink of death, it was a near death experience and it baffled me despite our pleading how medical personnel of all people would be the ones to draw a bridging gap between the poor and the rich, choosing PROFITS over PATIENTS, where only the wealthy can access the best treatment to a disease of which 75-80%of people affected may develop a chronic Condition.
Having carried out a research on the dangers of this disease, I'd love to appeal through this platform to the government and medical personnel to:
1). Pose a legal cheap charge on sovaldi tablets.
2). Approve a monopoly patent on sovaldi drugs tablets.
3). Temper justic with mercy.

A SUDDEN GENEROSITY:

I really can't explain how, but God came through for my brother through Meridian life support Nigeria t o provide medical assistance to safe his life. They paid for the hospital charges and also for a 5-week pill for the sovaldi drug. And also that's how he made it to the scholarship exams. All thanks to God.

Conclusively, it's hard to imagine an injustice more intolerable than a sick patient being restricted from having medicine that would alleviate suffering, pain or even safe a life. The government should also warn against a system that elevates profits over patients. And also to the people, we should learn on saying 'thou shalt not' to an economy of exclusion and inequality.
