Chuki vs Zenki vs Kouki?

Thought I would do some reading to find out what make a Zenki a Zenki and what makes a Kouki a Kouki, and came across Chukis as well! And more names like pig face and shark face lol. So far ive only really found info on AE86’s, 180sx’s, S13’s, and S14’s. And its gathered from everywhere so please correct me if I get anything wrong! =^_^=

So from what I now understand –

• Zenki means previous generation [in japanese]
• Chuki means middle generation
• Kouki means later generation

Zenki (1989-1990) S13
Chucki (1991-1994) S13

Kouki (1996-1998) 180sx [shark face]

“It just means early and late models. Nearly all cars get a “facelift” at 3 years into the 5–6 year production run. In the case of the 180SX which had a 10 year production life there a was a 2nd facelift at 6 years. So the middle life car is called “Chuki”, before the 2nd facelift it would have been “Kouki”.”

In 1997, the 240SX (S14) received minor updates. The different looks of the S-Chassis are referred to as before change "Zenki" and after change "Kouki". Changes were mostly aesthetic, including new projector headlights, front bumper, hood, fenders, and revised taillights and center panel. Side skirts became standard on the SE and LE trim level.

1. grille is different its a 3 slat one on zenki and kouki is a two slat with vertical slats 2. Kouki headlights are also different, hardly, but they have a different cover on them and the brackets for the grill are diff. 3. fender indicators, trim on the headlights to match, bar, bar brackets ect ect. its just alot less noticeable on a trueno. 4. also with the tail lights. underneath, they use the same lights. its just the kouki set up has the garnish over the top. the lights are still attached to the body, not part of the center panel. 5. the zenki model weighing 940kg and the kouki model weighing 960kg

Although, trying to read more into it, gets more confusing!! It seems they are mainly cosmetic differences in the cars, upgraded lights and trim etc, although CA 180sx to SR 180sx is a ‘bit’ of a difference :D
