"To The Highest Bidder by Supersister"(1971)

in #jazz5 years ago

Supersister was a Dutch band from the Hague, which was founded in the 1970s. It was composed of Robert Jan Stips (keyboards, vocals), Sacha van Geest (flute), Ron van Eck (bass) and Marco Vrolijk (drums) . The band's musical proposal is framed within the sounds of the canterbury scene; his style resembles bands like Egg (Polite Force) and Hatfield and The North (The Rotters' Club), given the prominence that keyboards have over the guitar. We can also include Caravan (vocal treatment, improvisation passages with a flute), and the Camel from the Mirage album (harmonies, rhythmic breaks, soft melodies). However, Supersister recognizes Soft machine and Frank Zappa as their fundamental influence, the first for their psychedelic jazz rock structures and the second for their hints of humor and unexpected passages in their songs. "To the Highest Bidder" (1971), is undoubtedly his masterpiece. Four pieces, where one of the best songs in the history of progressive rock is found: "A Girl Named You". Other pieces that are not far behind, are Energy (beautiful work of art of 15 minutes) and "No Tree Will Grow", his darkest and melancholy piece, but with a sound structure very refined ... therefore if you like jazz rock and progressive music, you will love this Dutch jewel ... =)
