□Vanda Falcata / 風蘭（ふうらん）

 ―　 Now I'm staying at my parents' house /只今、実家に帰省中です　―

There is a persimmon tree in front of the parents' entrance. A plant called "Fu-Lan"(Vanda falcata) is attached to the tree.

実家の玄関前には、柿の木があります。その木には、「風蘭」という植物を寄生させてあります。

In Japan, it is loved as one of the gardening plants since the Edo period. White flowers bloom from June to July, and the sweet scent smells strongly especially at night. The drooping roots are lovely, and I took the pictures.

江戸時代から愛好される、伝統園芸植物のひとつなんだとか。6月～7月にかけて白い花を咲かせ、甘い香りが特に夜に強く香るのだそうです。

垂れ下がる根が素敵だな、と思って写真を撮りました。

My grandfather bought it a few years ago and stuck it to the tree. He is 97 years old. He doesn't leave from his room now. The weather was bad last week, so the local fireworks festival has been postponed. So I said to him,

"Grandpa, it's a pity that the fireworks festival has been postponed."

He said,

"Fireworks festival? It is noisy, I hate it ..."

数年前に祖父が買ってきて、寄生させたのだそうです。祖父は97歳です。

今は自室から、ほとんど出ません。

天気が悪く、地元の花火大会が延期になってしまったので、

「おじいちゃん、花火、延期になっちゃったみたいだね」

と私が言うと、

「花火なんて音ばっかり大きくて、俺は嫌いだ…」

と言ってました。
