Revised Momotaro・桃太郎改訂版

Momotaro is a hero that makes his appearance in an old Japanese tale. He was born from a peach and raised by an old man and lady. This is an adventurous story that Momotaro slayed the ogres.

Today is the day that Momotaro goes to the Onigashima to slay the ogres. In the real story, the old lady is supposed to give Momotaro Kibidango (rice dumpling). But in this story, she is out for a Pachinko as usual. The old man is also out for a casino. Momotaro stole money out of their cashbox and bought Kibidango. Let’s go to the Onigashima!

On his way to the Onigashima, he saw a dog, a monkey, and a pheasant. Momotaro made them eat Kibidango even though they didn’t like Kibidango, and accepted them as a retainer, saying “I will kill any rebels.” They had no choice but to go with Momotaro.

Arriving at the Onigashima, the ogres were in the middle of having a drinking party. The brave Momotaro said “Hey, you ogres! I came here to kill you. I already planted bombs in this island. Hitting this switch, the island will burst at one stroke. If you give me back the villager's treasures, I will save your lives.” He said like this, lifting the switch up overhead by hand.

One red ogre jumped his feet and said sadly, “we have not stolen any treasures. We are living a self-sufficient life. We were bullied by villagers and came to this island for safety.” For some reason, they all looked so sad.

Momotaro kept the switch in an inside-pocket, and decided to hear the villagers. He asked them what the ogres had done, what kinds of treasures had been stolen. Then, each villager said quite different things, some of them couldn’t say anything. One day, a guy named Kakitaro, who is a very honest man, came to Momotaro and told the case.

According to Kakitaro, villagers were very scared of the ogres because they had sharp scorns on their heads, scary look on their faces, so villagers bullied them and banished them out of the village. Moreover the ogres had not stolen anything from the village. Momotaro felt sorry for the ogres, and started studying very hard to become a lawyer. The villagers reflected on themselves. After consultation, they reached a reconciliation, provided that the ogres cut their scorns off. At the present time, the ogres and the villagers have lived together happily.

Everybody has both good and bad points. There might be an ogre in your company and neighborhood, who are timid, shy, and kind-hearted. Let’s live together happily.

桃太郎は日本昔話に登場するヒーローです。桃から生まれてきて、おじいさんとおばあさんに育てられました。これは桃太郎が村人を苦しめる鬼を退治するという勇敢な物語です。

今日は、桃太郎が鬼を退治しに鬼ヶ島に行く日です。物語では、ここでおばあさんが桃太郎にキビ団子を持たせる事になっていますが、この物語では、おばあさんは相変わらずパチンコに行って留守。おじいさんも、カジノに出かけて居ません。桃太郎は、自宅の金庫からお金を盗んでキビ団子を買いました。いざ出発。

鬼ヶ島に行く途中で、桃太郎は、嫌がる犬、サル、キジに無理やりキビ団子を食べさせ、仲間にしました。犬もサルもキジも、逆らったら殺す、と言われたので、仕方なく桃太郎について行きました。

鬼ヶ島に到着すると、鬼たちが酒盛りをしている最中でした。勇敢な桃太郎は、「おい、鬼ども、俺達はお前達を退治しにきた。すでに、島には爆弾が仕掛けてある。このスイッチを押すと一気に爆発だ。村人から盗んだ宝を返してくれたら、命を助けてやろう」と言って手にしたスイッチを頭上高く持ち上げました。

１人の赤鬼がすっくと立ちあがって泣きそうな声で言いました。「宝なんか盗んでいません。生活は時給自足でやっています。村人をイジメたことは一度もありません。俺達のほうがイジメられてこの島に逃げてきたんです。」なぜか鬼たちはみんな悲しそうな顔をしています。

桃太郎は爆弾のスイッチを懐に収めて、島を引き上げ、村人に話を聞くことにしました。鬼達がどんなことをしたのか、どんな財宝が盗まれたのか、桃太郎は村人達に聞いてみました。すると、それぞれ言うことが違うし、何も答えられない者さえいました。ある日、村の正直者の柿太郎という男が桃太郎のところに来て事情を話しました。

柿太郎の話によると、鬼は頭に角があって、とても怖い顔をしているので、村人みんなでイジメて村から追い出したのだという。しかも、何も盗まれていないと言いました。鬼達をかわいそうに思った桃太郎は、猛勉強して弁護士になりました。村人は反省し、話し合いにより、鬼達が角を切る、という条件の元で和解し、今では鬼も村人も仲良く暮らしています。

誰でも良いところも悪いところもあるのです。あなたの職場にもご近所にも気が小さくて心の優しい鬼がいるかもしれません。みんなで仲良く暮らしていきましょう。
