Tokyo sujbway network(東京地下鉄路線網）

東京都心は”蜘蛛の巣”の様に張り巡らされた、地下鉄路線で覆われています。　掲載の

I remember the red train of the "Marunouchi" line near the Ochanomizu station,
which runs between Ikebukuro and Shinjyuku via the Tokyo station.
According to the official record, this Marunouchi line started in 1960's almost 60 years ago,
after "Ginza" line running between Shibuya and Asakusa via Ginza and Ueno.
Those original two lines covering main portion of the central Tokyo were sosuccessful,
other lines as "Hibiya","Touzai(East to West)", "Chiyoda", "Yuurakucho" line so forth
were completed in 70's to 80's.

昔、赤い電車が”御茶ノ水駅付近で見られましたが、これが新宿と池袋間を東京駅経由で
結んでいる”丸の内線”で60年前の1960年代に開通しています。　その少し前には現在の
”銀座線”の一部も開通したようです、銀座線は渋谷と浅草の間を、新橋・銀座・上野を
経由して結んでいて、丸の内線と並び、都心の主要な場所に我々を連れて行って呉れます。
この二つの路線が成功して、その後70年代～80年代にかけて、日比谷線、東西線、
千代田線、有楽町線等が次々に建設され、現在の路線網が出来上がり、便利になりました。

Refering to the subway network map, which first looks complicated but once you
learn, you will be helped a lot to go to the place you need to reach.
In this post, I would like to the major spots located in the eastern part of
the Tokyo station, where no JR service is available.
In the next issue, I will try to touch the western area inside the Yamate Line,
though some of the places, you have the choice to use either JR line or subway lines.

地下鉄路線図は、最初とても複雑に見えますが、慣れると便利で重宝するものです。
是非活用して、都内の各主要な場所にスムーズに移動されるように願います。　
この号では、東京駅‐皇居の東側の地域、JR線が行っていない所、地下鉄利用が不可欠な
観光名所を少しご説明しようと思います。　
次号では、西側、つまり山手線圏内の重要な場所をご説明したいと思っています。

1. The center of Tokyo is the area of the Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace
   where you can see the modern skyscrapers and the majestic beauty of the
   Imperial Palace in 15 minutes walking distance.
   
   
   １）東京駅・皇居
   15分で歩ける範囲ですが、近代的な高層ビル群と壮麗な皇居の佇まいをご覧頂けます。

2. The "Skytree" and Asakusa are located along the Sumida river, and you need to change the subway line
   at Asakusa when you visit the Skytree.
   the Skytree was completed in 2012 as the highest tower in the world of 634m at that time.
   Asakusa is one of the top tourist spot in Tokyo, having the temple and shrine with
   the unjique 230m shopping street named "Nakamise" before you arrive at the giant temple gate.
   ２）スカイツリー・浅草
   隅田川に沿って、今や東京の有数のランドマークのスカイツリーと浅草があります。
   スカイツリーは2012年に完成したばかりで、当時634mの高さは世界一でした。
   東京駅から直接の地下路線はありません。浅草線か銀座線で浅草まで行って、東武スカイツリー線に乗り換えて行くのがお勧めです。
   浅草は観光客に大人気の盛り場で、浅草寺に浅草神社、それにお土産等のショッピングを楽しめる、雷門～山門まで250ｍの”仲見世”が省けないスポットです。

3)Ueno
Ueno is one of the best "Cherry Blossom" spot since "EDO" period. The zoo at
Ueno has their history more than 120 years and the most popular one having its
attendance a year of 3.5 million. If you are lucky, you may be able to observe
"XianXian" a beby panda here. Ueno park has also several facilities as the
national gallery, museum and the concert house in the cite.
３）上野
江戸時代から都内有数の桜の名所として知られていますが、近年はパンダで有名になった
上野動物園が賑わっています。　動物園は年間350万人の入場者があり、日本最大の動物園と言えます。　
幸運に恵まれたら、貴方も最近生まれたパンダの赤ちゃん”シャンシャン”に会えるかもしれません。　
上野公園内には、その他国立の美術館、博物館や音楽会場等があり、季節ごとに展示会等を催しています。

4)"Ginza" and "Tsukiji Market"
Ginza is the No.1 high-class and famous shopping street in Japan, having the
street name of 1st to 8th ,probably Ginza 4th (4chome) near the station of
Yuutakucho as the middle of the entire Ginza street, though recently the new
place called "Ginza Six" at 6 chome, having 241 world renowned brand shops, has
opened and crowded.
The Kabuki theater. traditional Japanese Opera place, is located on the Harumi
street crossing with Ginza street at 4 chome. If you further walk on some 10
minutes on Harumi street, you will reach the Tsukiji Market, the largest whole-
sale market in Tokyo, which opened more than 80 years ago and is supposed to
move to the new place beyond the Harumi Pier and the Sumida River, "Toyosu".
４）銀座・築地
銀座は日本一の高級ショッピング街で、1丁目～８丁目の間、約1500ｍに世界的に有名なブランド店が軒を連ねています。　有楽町から晴海通りで4丁目辺りが中心とも思われますが、最近6丁目に出来た銀座シックスが241店舗を集め、賑わっています。
有楽町から晴海通りを銀座4丁目を通り過ぎると、歌舞伎座があります。　更に10分ほど晴海通り
を歩くと、築地市場に達します。　築地市場は80年ほど前に開設されたもので、老朽化が
進んでおり、近々更に晴海埠頭を超えた豊洲新市場に移る計画になっていますが、未だに
ブランド力もあり、場外市場も毎日多数の観光客で賑わっています。

In the next post, I will write other spots as Ikebukuro, Shinjyuku, Shibuya,
Shinaga and the Olympic Stadium.
今回はここまでとし、次回に山手線沿線と山手線内側のスポットに触れたいと思います。
