【意味】 四六時中とは、一日中。いつも。Shirokuji chuu means the whole day, always.

【四六時中の語源・由来】 四六時中は、もともと「二六時中」と言われていた。 「二六時中」は、一日の時間を「子の刻」「丑の刻」など、干支の十二刻で表していた江戸時代の使われ方で2×6で12となるため、一日中を意味していた。 「四六時中」は、「二六時中」を現代の一日の時間（24時間）に合わせ、4×6の24時間としたものである。

Origin of 四六時中 (Shirokuji chuu) , originally spoken as 二六時中 (Nirokuji chuu) . In the past, time is split into 12 sections according to the Zodiac and each section of time (2hrs) is referred to the Zodiac animal such as [Rat hour], [Ox hour] etc. In Edo period, a day refers to 12 hours (Sun rise to Sun set) so 2x6=12. In modern times a day refers is mostly referred as 24 hours so Nirokuji chuu has been changed to Shirokuji chuu to reflect that.
