New Year at our place

in #japan7 years ago (edited)

As some of you will know, I am originally from Australia, but living in Japan. Every year we go to our inlaws' place for New Year.

On New Year's eve, we usually play cards, drink a bit, watch some kickboxing (you know, the usual).

But on New Year's Day we have Osetchi Ryori (おせち料理). Usually this means a lot of cooking and preparation, but this year everyone was too lazy (sorry, busy) for that, so we bought it instead.

Osetchi has a history that, according to Wikipedia (What? I'm hung over...don't expect me to do a lot of research right now...) goes back to the Heian period. The traditional dishes are served in boxes that look a lot like large bento boxes. They're known as jūbako (重箱).

These were all delicious and we'll definitely be looking this company up again in the future (cause ain't nobody got time for that!).

After this we will be heading to a temple for good luck in the new year and going to fly kites (not a Japanese tradition on New Year, but a family one). Hope you all have a great New Year in 2018.

The food are so colorful, looks tasteful too. Happy New Year! By the way, how did you do that format where you can interchanged the place of the pictures and put your write ups besides it?

Thanks @puroypoi. It tasted great too. The formatting didn't quite work out how I wanted but this is what I used:

<div class="pull-right">

</div>

This is a good link for that too: https://steemit.com/steemit/@steemitguide/steemitguide-howto-make-use-of-a-steemit-feature-that-allows-you-to-display-content-floating-left-right-and-learn-to-paragraph

thank you for the link, i will check this out.

It's like a buffet in a box. As long as it's fresh, that looks super tasty :) Go fly a kite, man!

LOL Thanks Neg. That's the nicest thing anyone's said to me... all year. :-P

Happy New year
Love the meal

Happy New Year @thinknzombie

Now that sounds like a plan!

Unless someone in the family really likes making that stuff, outsourcing it means more time for chilling and hanging right :D

The kite flying tradition sounds cute :)

We didn't end up going yet...we decided people would want to stop for lunch (?). I can't personally eat another thing, but there you go. We'll head off soon. Happy New Year!

A hungover zombie! Imagine that... .

It does look like you guys had a lovely meal. I hope the rest of your New Years goes as well for you and your family!

Ah enjoy reading! Happy new year and good luck!!
Thanks for visiting my blog.

Have a good one, Zombie!

its so perfect bro,good work @thinknzombie

@thinkzombie, yum!!! I love how the Japanese put such a huge emphasis on presentation. I have hotpot with my family for New Years and everything is just in piles to be tossed into one big boiling pot.
