本日1月10日に、日本では伝統的な神事、「十日戎」が開催されました。
On January 10 today, traditional Shinto priest, "Toka Ebisu" was held in Japan.

戎は商売繁盛の神様です。日本では1月10日前後3日間、この神様を称え商売繁盛を祈ります。
"Ebis" is a god of prosperous business. In Japan, people honor this god for three days around January 10 and pray for business prosperity.　People call it "Tola (10th) Ebisu"

様々な神社でこの「十日戎」が行われていますが、兵庫県の西宮神社では特にユニークな神事を行っているので毎年日本中の人々が注目しています。
Especially at Nishinomiya Shrine in Hyogo prefecture, this shrine is doing a unique shrine so every year people in Japan are paying attention.

この行事は、午前6時に神社の門が開くと神社の境内を走り、一番に本殿に入ったものに「福」を授けるというものです。

This event is when the gate of the shrine opens at 6 am, runs inside the shrine's temple and gives "Fuku(Happy)" to what entered the main hiatus first.

門から本殿までの距離は230メートルあります。この距離をおよそ5000人の人々が本気で走ります。
The distance from the gate to the main hall is 230 meters. Approximately 5000 people run seriously at this distance.

その様子はまさに陸上大会のようです。
That is exactly like an athletic meeting.

今年は高校三年生の18歳の少年が「福男」の名誉を得ました。
This year, the 18-year-old boys of the high school third grader got the honor of "Fukuo".

彼はもともと200メートル走の記録保持者で21秒台で走ることが出来るそうです。すごいですね！
He was originally a record holder with a 200 meter run and he seems to be able to run in the 21 second range. It is amazing!
