Top 3 Appropriate Nicknames for Japan (Notes from Under the Tatami Mats–3 … My Adventures in Japan)

“We smiled ... and continued watching the floating world drift by.”

One Friday evening, a few friends and I were standing on a sidewalk in Susukino, the night-life entertainment district in Sapporo. We were just hanging out in the hours between getting off work and doing something constructive or deconstructive.

Just another Friday night

The sidewalks were buzzing with the type of activity that occurs in such places.

– Young ladies running around preparing for a night’s work in the hostess bars;

– Crowds of university students sitting on the sidewalks around full party spreads of beer and food;

– Slightly drunk salarymen on their way to their ni-ji-kai  (the second party), where they’d get drunker and probably even drunker.

Everything seemed safe, secure, simple, and decent. We watched it all, quietly and with bemused interest.    (Image source)

The floating world, or Disneyland

Steve turned to us and said, “This is Disneyland.”

We smiled, nodded, and continued watching the floating world drift by. *

The floating world (Ukiyo) described by you shows how the Japanese party harder the same way they work. All work and no fun would result in people living a meaningless life which is already controlled by the greedy corporates.

I believe the Japanese pronounce Japan as "Nipon" meaning the Suns Origin and Ukiyo would represent the Japanese part of the Sinking Sun :) .

Moreover , Japan , is one of the financial hubs of the world, and the floating world would attract more tourism as this is what humans would want to do. Party,relax and seek pleasure after a hard day of work :)

That's a good way of putting it.

Thank you for information about top 3 appropriate nickname for Japan!
